Default Common Cooking Abbreviations

  • c - cup (8 ounces liquid)
  • deg - degree
  • doz - dozen (quantity 12)
  • gal - gallon (16 cups or 128 ounces liquid)
  • hr - hour
  • lb - pound (16 ounces weight)
  • lg - large
  • med - medium
  • mod - moderate (usually relates to oven temp ~ 350° F.)
  • oz - ounce
  • pt - pint (2 cups or 16 ounces liquid)
  • qt - quart (4 cups 32 ounces liquid)
  • pkg - package
  • tsp - teaspoon
  • tbsp - tablespoon

bottle - btl
baking powder -B.P.
black - blk.
minutes - min.
optional -(opt.)
ounces - ozs.
small - sm.
vegetable - veg.
doble broiler - d.b.
cubic - cu.
drop - dp.
peck -pk.
sugarfree - SuF
partially boiled - par-boiled
square - sq.
