Thread: store an avocado?

    Default store an avocado?

More specifically, how do I store half of an avocado? I thought I remembered that if you left the pit in the avocado, it would keep it from browning. However, in under 8 hours, the avocado is completely brown and shriveled. Darnit!! so how do I store it for later consumption??

Keep cut avocados fresh by sprinkling lemon or lime juice on the slices. Avocado will turn brown otherwise.

    Avocados do not freeze well.

My suggestion - eat the whole thing......................mmmmmmmmmmm

Good to know - i have an avocado that i'm waiting to ripen right now, but I guess i'll have to be sure to eat it fast once it's ready.

Refrigerating it doesn't do the trick, either. Darn it. I really wanted to avoid the lemon juice thing. I don't like the aftertaste it leaves.

I wonder, would plastic wrap or a Tupperware container help any?

Sorry to say - it'll brown like an apple, banana, pear - oxidation.

So it's use it or lose it (green). Oh well. Thanks again, mama m.

That's a good question. I have never been able to store avocados to my satisfaction. Since my husband refuses to eat them (is he crazy?) then I always find myself in this dilemma because it's hard to eat one all by myself at once.

That's what I do. I love avocados in a garden salad. They need the lemon juice added to keep from browning but any salad dressing after that is good. But this thread makes me wonder how do the avocado suppliers keep them coming?

I recommend taking the remaining piece of avocado and make a quick and easy guacamole dip that you can eat with tortilla chips or use it for fajitas or a taco salad the next day.

I know, I should just eat it all at once, but they are soooooo very fatty.
