I keep mine in a Ziploc bag in the veggie drawer in my fridge as well. They keep for practically forever that way. Onions as well. If you ever only need a half of an onion, DON'T use the half with the root; leave that half for another day; stored in a ziploc bag in the veggie drawer. That half will last longer than the other half.
