    Default bread bowls

Does anyone know how to make bread bowls like the do at the restaurants to put soup in and salads in? I am pretty good at making bread but I am not sure how to form and make bread bowls.

    loubear -

many ready-made soup bowls are made from round balls of dough, baked, tops cut off and insides hollowed out leaving about 3/4-inch shell - the reserved bread being used for stuffings, croutons or bread crumbs

I have stainless steel bowls that are just the right size for a bread bowl and I will form my homemade bread over the bowls and bake - removing the bowls after baking.

A friend of mine makes hers by inverting her jumbo cupcake pans and using every other muffin cup as a mold (don't let the dough from one bread bowl touch the other or you will have soft spots and you don't want that)

I would suggest experimenting to see which works best for you.

Loubear, I have read from the newspaper that to form bread bowl you need soufflé-type-baking dish. Turn it upside-down on baking sheet then lightly spray outside of dish with cooking spray. Place dough on base of dish and press down evenly over sides to form bowl. Just repeat this process for your desired number of bread bowls.

I don't know how to do this. I am just sharing to you what I have read.

Thanks for sharing these tips on how to make a homemade bread bowl. I have never tried to make my own bread bowls but feel inspired to do so now. I do enjoy having French Onion Soup served in a Sourdough bread bowl. It just so happens that my hubby made some sourdough starter last weekend for pancakes and have been keeping it going all week. Perhaps I can convince him to use some of the sourdough starter to make two bread bowls for some homemade French Onion soup.
