We had a reunion and someone brought a buttermilk pie. It was not your typical buttermilk pie. It was creamy and did not have a lemon or lime taste, instead it had a really sweet taste.

Chess Pie

2 cups sugar
1 tbsp cornmeal
3 eggs, beaten
2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp flour
1 stick butter, melted
1/2 cup buttermilk

Mix all together and pour into a shell; bake at 350* until it passes the toothpick test. Add lemon flavoring or coconut, if you'd like.

MAGNOLIA PIE (BUTTERMILK PIE)

2 cups sugar
1 stick butter, room temperature
4 tablespoons flour
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell

In large bowl cream together sugar, butter and flour. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.

Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool and serve.

BUTTERMILK CUSTARD PIE

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. butter, softened
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 unbaked pie shell, 9-in.

Mix sugar and flour; cream with butter. Add eggs, vanilla, salt and buttermilk. Gently pour into pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until filling is set. This recipe can be doubled.

Thank you for these great recipes. I think it was called magnolia pie, not that you refreshed my memory. I am going to try each of these.

You're very welcomed! Chess/Magnolia/Buttermilk - all basically the same - but I hope one of them is close to what you are looking for!
