You know what cracks me up~ when the weather is say... 78 out there are actual people wearing coats?!! Can you believe it?! I wear shorts all year round and my sandals and flip flops. When it is 72 and I'm still wearing a tank top, shorts, and flops people actually say "aren't you cold"??!!! I am not and just to get people to stop asking me that I carry a sweat jacket. I was born and raised in NJ and I remember the 10 to 24 inches of snow over night~ but.... if I want that, ALL I have to do is drive 2 1/2 north to Flagstaff and it's the same as anywhere, lots of snow, cold, and sledding everything.
I guess how you prepare for winter, clothing, shovels, hot chocolate~ is how in Phoenix you prepare for summer, blazing summer. You go out in the early hours or late evening, go about your day where there is air conditioning, always carry several bottles of water. 
I miss the cold, but I stay here because my family is here, I would love the opportunity to move to Denver, Flagstaff, or Eugene OR. but, as it stands, for a while longer I'm staying here (sort of feels like a prison sentence to me) ... I promise myself I'm leaving. Personally, and truthfully, I can't stand Phoenix.
