1 whole chicken, cut into serving portions salt 1/3 cup soy sauce 1 tablespoon minced onion 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder 2 teaspoons finely sliced ginger 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons rice wine 2 cups water 2 teaspoons sesame oil Directions: Rub chicken with salt. Marinate in soy sauce for 30 minutes. Put chicken in a pan together with the onion, five-spice powder, ginger, sugar, rice wine and the excess marinade. Add water then bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for about 25 to 30 minutes or until mixture thickens and chicken is tender. Turn chicken pieces about halfway through the cooking time to produce an even brown color.
