    What kind do you want?

    A & W CONEY ISLAND SAUCE

    In large saucepan, brown:
5 lbs. ground beef - with
    2 small onions, finely chopped

    Add to saucepan:
    64 oz. tomato paste
    64 oz. tomato puree
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1/3 cup cider vinegar
    2 tablespoon chili powder
    1 tablespoon pepper
    1 tablespoon celery seed
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon salt - combine.

Simmer for 3 ˝ hours, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.

    This freezes well.

For an authentic taste use Kogel franks and rehydrate dry minced onions in boiling water.

    Greek Sauce for Hot Dogs

    1 lb. ground beef
    2 chopped onions
    ˝ t. oregano
    ˝ t. chili powder
    ˝ t. sweet basil
    ˝ t. cayenne pepper
    ˝ t. garlic salt
    ˝ t. cumin
    1 small can tomato sauce
    1 c. water

Place all ingredients in crock pot. Cook ˝ day on LOW and half day on HIGH. Good on hotdogs, hamburgers or fries.

    Doggie Sauce

    3 lbs. hamburger
    2 T. paprika
    2 1/2 T. chili powder
    1 1/2 T. crushed red pepper
    1 T. salt
    1 T. celery seed
    1/2 T. garlic powder
    1 T. black pepper
    1 pt. water

Brown all ingredients (except water) until pink is gone. Add water and cover until water boils, then simmer until most of water is gone. Note: This is a hot sauce so cut the 1 1/2 tablespoon crushed pepper and 1 tablespoon black pepper in half, if desired. Note: What sauce is leftover freeze in ice trays. Pop out and put in baggie.

    Simple Sauce

    1 lb. hamburger
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 can tomato paste
    1 onion, cut fine
    3/4 t. chile powder
    1 t. salt

Cook hamburger, drain. Mix hamburger with all ingredients and simmer for 45 minutes. Hamburger should be very fine. Place over wiener in bun. Add raw onions and mustard on top of the sauce.

Definitely have to try them all!!

I put this together the other day and topped my hot dogs with it:

Heat olive oil and a pat of butter in heavy pan, add ground meat (I used ground chuck), and fry until just about done - drain; add minced onion, garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, paprika, chili powder and fennel. Add diced tomatoes - drained; simmer. During the last 5 minutes of cooking add a can of drained and rinsed kidney beans.

Serve over beef dogs, on split French bread, top with shredded extra sharp Cheddar and enjoy!

You can also slice your dogs and add to beef as it is frying and serve as a "loose meat" sammie!

Another secret - try frying your dogs in the same pan at the same time when frying beef burgers! What an added taste!

My father in law gets in the kitchen and adds this and that to his sauce.
    Its not pretty...
I went down there once and he had made salad with iceburg lettuce, radishes and store bought fat free orange dressing WHICH he topped with canned mackeral. BLEH!
Another time he made mackeral cakes with mixed veggies added into them before he fried them. I always dread hearing the words..you have to try this from him lol.
His hotdog sauce had ground beef, bbq sauce, steak sauce, ketchup and other things I was afraid to ask about lol. Now you know why I do the cooking most of the time.

Default A Sabrette Onion Sauce For Hot Dogs

This is a pretty popular hot dog sauce in the NY metro area. Sabrette hot dogs are very popular here.

    Onion Sauce

    Ingredients

    1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced
    1 quart of V8 juice
    2 tablespoons tomato paste
    2 teaspoon cornstarch
    1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or a few shots of Tabasco sauce.
    1 teaspoon of paprika
    1/4 cup vinegar

    1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
    2. Sauté sliced onion in the oil for 5 minutes, until onions are
    translucent.
    3. Add V8 juice, tomato paste, cornstarch, salt, and red
pepper flakes or Tabasco, paprika and stir.
    4. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Add vinegar. Continue to simmer for an additiona1 15-20 minutes or
until most of the liquid has reduced and the sauce is thick.

Some that make this sauce also like to add some ground beef with the onions in the first step. I prefer chili with out beans if I'm going for beef..

I loved the hotdogs and sauce I got when I lived in WV.

    Some of these look close.

    Thanks,

    Johnny
