Do any of you know which type fish has a gizzard that you can fry and eat just like chicken gizzards?
Come on now, you get 3 guesses!
There may be more than 1, but the one I am thinking of is most common in the south for eating!

hmmm... I'm stumped- and have no idea, Cath! (But, I love me a big ole mess of fried chicken gizzards!)
Please don't say Catfish, lol.
It is not catfish![]()
Come on anymore guesses?
They also cut the row out of these and meal them and deep fry the entire egg sack and eat them. So that makes 3 edible parts to this fish
1] flesh
2] gizzard
3] row
is that a good hint to help anyone?
My Grandmother use to eat the eggs from Carp. I can't see eating the gizzards though because they were bottom feeders like the Catfish.
I'm going to say "Crawdads"
hhhmmm... Dover Sole, Cath?
Ewwww, people in Florida eat Mullet gizzards.
Not Crawfish, or Dover Sole guys! I will give a couple more hints...
This fish was a great source of protein to the Southern soldiers in the deep south down near the Gulf of Mexico during the Civil War.
Also many people who are not "in the know" consider them trash fish
And they are enjoyed smoked
There is also a really famous "------ Toss" in Gulf Shores, Alabama and the Florida State Line every summer at a very popular joint called "The Flora-Bama" it is at this event that this particular type fish is tossed to see who can thrwo them the furthest![]()
OK now I know you guys can guess it![]()
Congrats, ic!
