    Default Old Fashioned Spice Cake

    Old Fashioned Spice Cake

    SERVES 12
    2 cups sugar
    1 cup butter, softened
    4 eggs
    3 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground cloves
    1 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 cup buttermilk

    Cream sugar and butter.
Add eggs, beat for 1 minute.
    Mix dry ingredients.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
    Beat for 1 minute.
Pour into greased and floured 9x13 pan.
Bake at 350* for 40 minutes.

I used half butter and half vegetable oil to make the cake moist.

This is very good. Has a lighter flavor. Very fluffy cake.

I love Spice Cake, janie. In fact, I just make them from the store-bought box mixes- and enjoy them w/ fluffy white- or cream cheese frosting.

I used to have a ginger-snap cookie recipe that used a spice cake mix- YUM!

Jon loved the cake. I thought it needed more spice. I topped it with a powdered sugar glaze.
I used cake flour and 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup veg oil.
