CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE (this is an old recipe)

2 c. flour
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. sugar
3 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. milk
3 eggs
1/2 c. semisweet chocolate chips, finely chopped
OR 1/2 c. semisweet miniature chocolate chips
1 1/2 t. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350* F. Grease and flour 13 x 9-inch pan or 2 round layer pans; set aside.

Beat all ingredients (except chocolate chips) in larger mixer bowl on low speed, scraping the bowl often. Increase speed to high and beat for 3 minutes. Stir in chips. Pour into prepared pan(s).

Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until cakes tests done.

If desired, frost cake when cool.

Cool. Frost if desired.

**For the chocolate chip lovers:
Chocolate Chip Frosting

1 1/3 c Sugar
6 tb Margarine
6 tb Milk
1/2 c Milk chocolate chips

Boil sugar, margarine and milk for 1 minute. Add chips and stir until
dissolved. DO NOT MAKE THIS FROSTING UNTIL THE CAKE IS COMPLETELY COOL AND YOU ARE READY TO FROST IT; this frosting "sets up" quickly.

I made a cake similair to this when I was in Home Ec when I was in middle school. It was soooo good.
