    Default gastric bypass diet

Hi all! My mom is getting gastric bypass this week and I wanted to see if anyone has had that surgery and if they have any good recipes for the first few weeks of recovery or even after that. She will be on a low sugar & low fat diet. I will be cooking for her because she won't really be able to do anything for the first few days. Please let me know!!

    thanks guys!

be sure to get the diet from her doctor - only the doctor can tell her what she can and cannot have and how it should be prepared

well most of the foods that her doctor has said to eat was like plain ground beef & plain ground chicken... things like that. Thank you for your advice!! I will def speak with her doctor on Thursday when she goes in!

I'm hoping for gastric bypass approval in a couple months and currently going through all the evaluations and tests. In my manuals I don't see such items as ground beef or chicken for months down the road after surgery. First weeks are usually liquids only, then pureed foods, before the body has recovered from the surgery and adjusted to the new digestive plumbing. And eating will be in very small quantities, 1/2 cup quantities to start and then building to 1 cup.

Your mother should have been meeting with a dietitian to work many of those menu details out before the surgery. They actually have me started in that direction already so that I'm in the correct habits after surgery.

I know a couple of people who have had that surgery and CanMan is right on with what you are allowed to eat afterwards.

Good luck to you Can Man - I know several as well and they adhered to the rules and are doing fabulous! Only one person (she's a glutton anyway) blew it and is right back up there again. You will do just fine!
