I can't believe you didn't have one before this. An instant-read with remote probe is such a useful (some would say essential) part of your kitchen gear.

One suggestion: Remove the clip and keep it in your junk drawer. It is rarely needed, in my experience, and just gets in the way as it counterbalances the probe, and causes it to tear loose.

Only time the clip works is if you're measuring liquids in a pot, or some such. And how often do you do that? Only time I need to do that is when making yogurt, and I have a separate thermometer for that.

In two years I have yet to use the clip for anything.

Ball Blue Book of Preserving is the canning bible and Ball® has just come out with their new 100th Anniversary copy with a Peach design on the cover. The older book has a Blueberry design. Get a copy and it has all the information to learn how to preserve your own foods.

Ball® now has a new book out celebrating their 100th Anniversary (1909-2009) entitled
Ball Blue Book Guide To Preserving. If you are interested in canning foods this is the book you want to have before all others.

Ball Blue Book Guide To Preserving

I just got mine yesterday. A dozen changes in the recipes, but the old and new books have basically the same information and directions so only the canning fanatics like me need to rush out and get the new book.

But if you are thinking about canning, its the best investment you ever made.
