Thread: Freezing Spices

    Default Freezing Spices

    I was wondering......
Is it ok to freeze spices?

I cannot find small containers of some spices so I buy what's available.
Sometimes I won't use a certain spice for quite a while then when I do need it, there is no flavor or you can definetly tell that it's "old".

So... is it possible to freeze them and use what you need and will they stay fresher, longer?

    Thanks,
    Kerch

Some freeze well and some don't. Either way, use containers or bags that keep air and moisture out. Vacuum seal when possible.

If you buy whole spices they will freeze better.

Some day perhaps someone will invent a spice jar with a built-in vacuum pump, like they have spices with grinders.
