My formal china is Lenox Federal Cobalt.

I also love Lenox Holiday for Christmas time, though I don't own any. One day.

In the meantime at Christmas I make do with the classic Spode Christmas Tree. It's informal, but I love it. Reminds me of my childhood.

For Christmas (over 20 years ago and before they really started pushing Christmas dinnerware) I got a service for 8 with an old-fashioned design that reminded me so much of years ago. It was a cheapie - but I loved it!

I worked in china/crystal/silver/bridal registry department of a department store for a few years in high school so i spent many boring nights looking at place settings, lol.

My all time favorite china maker was Pickard. Bracelet was their most popular pattern, but all of them were gorgeous.

Denby had interesting but very expensive casual dinnerwear.

Lenox and Wedgwood always have classic patterns and are well-made.

I never liked Noritake, always looked cheaply made compared to the other brands.

Wedgwood all the way! My mother has the classic white Wedgwood and I have a newer one that has a faint raised snowflake pattern with platinum edging.

I'm totally a sucker for Wedgwood. Back when I was registering for wedding china etc., I saw a thing that Sarah Ferguson (then spokeswoman for Wedgwood) did where she demonstrated the strength of bone china by standing on a teacup.

I'm a big fan of many Lenox patterns, especially the holiday/special occasion ones. When I make my first million I'm buying a full set.

I agree Noritake seems to not be in the same class as several other brands such as Lenox, Wedgewood, and such as those.

Wedgwood is classic, though it is expensive. That would be my first choice.

However, I like many of the casual patterns such as what you find at Crate & Barrel.

I'm so bitter. We went with two Pfaltzgraff patterns for our everyday wedding china and I just discovered that both of them are "retired." Yes, i can get more on eBay, but at a major markup. UGH. That'll teach me to stray from classic.

You can try replacements.com, but they are pricey too. Sorry, that stinks.

Shortly before our wedding, we got a notice that Dillard's was discontinuing our pattern. The pattern itself was still around, that store just wasn't carrying it anymore.
