I just had to deal with this over the weekend because my hubby had friends over for the final Nascar race of the season. They made bratwursts (sp?) on the grill, so I didn't have to worry much about snack foods. Which I'm glad because he sprung it on me last minute & I didn't have any time to get anything besides a couple bags of potato chips for them. Grrrrr, silly man.

when I have people coming over, I bake....banana or apple bread, cookies, brownies, cobbler, etc.

Thankfully we don't have that kind of company very often.

Men (no offense fellas) seem to do that - not thinking! Then it's up to the magician (you) to pull something off successfully!

It's always nice to have simple things on hand - refrigerated crescent rolls or dinner rolls can be used to a variety of quickies. Don't forget the little smokies or little weiners rolled in crescent rolls and baked, or the frozen meatballs or little smokies or pieces of polish sausage heated in a crockpot or on the stove with the grape jelly/chili sauce. Freeze leftover chili for hotdog toppings when in a pinch. Frozen hotdog rolls can easily be steamed or microwaved - and don't forget the grated Cheddar and chopped onions for topping. Leftover (or jarred/frozen) spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce with refrigerated dough or French/Italian bread and some toppings can make a quickie pizza. So can bagels, English muffins. baguettes, etc. Frozen bread sticks and a jar of spaghetti sauce for dippers! I always have cheeses and pepperoni in the house and crackers - quickie cheese tray! Add sliced apples or pears or kiwi, maybe some fresh strawberries and grapes.

Got a box of frozen beef patties in the freezer? Slice onions and fry with the patties, season and pour tomato sauce over - great sandwiches.

Quick dips can be made from sour cream/mayo and dry soup or salad dressing mixes. Frozen ground meat in the freezer can be quickly skillet fried and turned into sloppy joes or a loosemeat type sandwich with melted cheeses.

Clean the carrots and celery and cut into strips with ranch or bleu cheese salad dressing.

Canned tuna, drained and mixed with Italian salad dressing can be stuffed in celery stalk pieces. Or stuff with tuna/mayo.

And don't forget those quickie salads - tuna salad, egg salad, ham salad, chicken salad, etc. served with crackers. Serve with cherry tomatoes, fresh veggies, cheeses etc. Add some diced canned pineapple and a bunch of toothpicks for eating.

Cut potatoes into wedges, drizzle with oil, season with salt, pepper, parsley, rosemary or cayenne and toss to coat. Bake 350* until done.

Cut up sausage, brats, hotdogs - even steamed in beer with some easy dipping sauces (even Dijon mustard - now how simple is that?)

Cook ground meat with peppers, onions, beans, etc. for a hot dip for tortilla chips.

Or toss the chicken wings in the deep fryer or oven and make hot wings.

Got tortillas? Roll and wrap with ham, cheese, deli meats and slice into pinwheels. No tortillas - waht about lettuce leaves? Cut slour tortillas into 4 or 6 wedges and deep fry; sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar for a sweet treat.

And don't forget stuffed eggs, pickles, olives, peppers, etc.

(I'll hush for now...............)

I have a few standards which are always good:

Roasted garlic/red pepper dip (an Emeril recipe)
Cream cheese with raspberry/chipotle sauce
Homemade salsa with tortilla chips

When I feel like I want myself to be healthy, my first choices of snacks would be fruits. I like watermelon, mangoes and pineapples the most.

Now, this may sound weird but for vegetables, I like raw cabbage dipped in peanut butter

When I don't feel like I want to be healthy, chips, chips and more chips!

For snacks during cold days, we sometimes have chocolate rice porridge, arroz caldo, etc. I also like bananas or sweet potatoes fried in brown sugar. During cold days, the most common snack we have is "halo-halo" (mix-mix), it's a smorgasbord of ingredients which can include sweet beans, palm seeds, diced fresh and canned fruit, sweet corn kernels, toasted nuts and seeds, and crisp cereal are mixed in topped with shaved ice and milk is poured over the ice.

Usually things like chips/dip, pigs in a blanket, veggie trays, meat/cheese trays, and my favorite - beer battered jalapeno slices. YUM! Dipped in ranch dressing. It's worth the work, and the TUMS, LOL!

Well...I seem sort of a simple girl. I love chips and dip, popcorn, or Chex Mix for a snack. Maybe fruit slices or salsa and chips. Nothing fancy.

You and I seem a lot alike. I don't like to go overboard with food for really any event or occasion. Unlike some women (I guess) especially when there's a good football game. I only care about a couple of teams, but if one of them is playing I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen!
