Default Grinders for Dinner

Growing up my parents would fix Grinders for our dinner. In keeping with a family tradition I now fix them for my family. To make grinders you need to start with a sturdy submarine roll such as Ottenbergers. You also need to have about 1 pound of quality Italian sausage links (rope sausage will also work just cut it into links). You start by thoroughly cooking the sausage links. While the sausage is cooking split the submarine rolls and place them on a cookie sheet. Generously spread both sides of submarine rolls with your favorite spaghetti sauce. We prefer to use Ragu's Pizza Quick Sauce. Then sprinkle mozzerella cheese over the sauce. If you like mushrooms you can also put some cooked mushrooms (canned mushrooms work just fine) on top of the sauce. Once the sausage links are cooked slice them in half lenghtwise. Place as many link halfs cut side down on top of the mozzerella as will fit on one side of the rolls. Put more mozzerella cheese on top of sausage links. Place submarine rolls in an oven under the broiler for a few minutes until cheese is melted and slightly browned. To serve slice cooked submarines in half. Grinders are great with onion rings or french fries.

My family tried your Grinder recipe for dinner tonight and they fell in love with the Grinders. We felt we needed to have a more balanced meal so we served a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, and diced onions instead of onion rings or french fries. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe for Grinders. You can be guaranteed that this will become a staple dish for our family.
