Recipe: Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Honey Whole Wheat Bread Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 1/4 cups honey
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 5 tsp dry yeast
  • 7 cups whole wheat flour
  • 7 cups white flour

To make Honey Whole Wheat Bread

  1. Add the honey, salt and shortening to 5 cups water. Heat until the shortening melts. Cool to lukewarm.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.
  3. Put the whole wheat flour in a large bowl. Add the water mixture and yeast mixture. Stir in white flour.
  4. Knead with hands adding flour as needed.
  5. Knead 5 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place in greased bowl and cover. Let rise until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down. Turn out on counter, cover 5 to 10 minutes. Make into 4 or 5 loaves.
  8. Place in greased 9x5" bread pans.
  9. Cover, let rise until doubled in size.
  10. Bake Honey Wheat Bread for 35 to 45 minutes in 350° F. oven.
