Recipe: Oriental Turkey Meatballs



 

Recipes using McCormick Garlic Powder

 

Turkey Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 cup quick oatmeal
  • 5 oz can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup low fat milk
Sauce
  • 20oz can pineapple chucks (reserve can juice)
  • 1 cup granulated brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 can condensed beef boullion
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2/3 cup chopped red pepper
  1. Prepare the meatballs by combining all of the ingredients listed above under meatballs.
  2. Mix well, then let sit for 5 minutes. Mix again then form into 1 inch balls.
  3. Cook turkey meatballs in a large lightly greased non-stick skillet until brown. Remove any accumulated fat, and set cooked meatballs aside while preparing the sauce.
  4. Prepare the sauce by mixing sugar and cornstarch in a 2 quart pan and then gradually stirring in the reserved pineapple juice, beef boullion, red wine vinegar, and low sodium soy sauce.
  5. Cook the sauce while stirring constantly over medium heat until thickened and clear.
  6. Add the pepper chunks and pineapple to the pan.
  7. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and simmer for about 20 minutes.
