Recipe: Shrimp Gumbo

Recipes using Durkee Whole Thyme Leaves

• 4 tbsp flour
• 4 large minced onions
• 1 stick butter
• 5 cans chicken broth
• 1 cup minced celery
• 3 bay leaves
• 1 tbsp thyme leaves
• 2 pounds raw shrimp
• 2 tsp chopped garlic [about 4 cloves]
• 3 cups crabmeat
• 1 cup minced bell pepper
• Cooked Rice

1. Brown 4 tablespoon of flour in dry skillet. Set aside.
2. Saute 4 large minced onions in stick of butter.
3. Add 2 tablespoons of brown flour and stir.
4. Add 5 cans of hot chicken broth, 2 tsp chopped garlic, 1 cup minced bell pepper, 1 cup minced celery, 3 bay leaves, and 3 tablespoons thyme.
5. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add any other seasonings as you wish.
6. Lastly, add 2 more tablespoons of brown flour; stir and simmer 2 hours.
7. Add 2 pounds raw shrimp and 3 cups cooked crabmeat.
8. Simmer 30 minutes.
