Recipe: Steak Espanole



 

Recipes using McCormick Whole Cloves

 

  • 1 1/2 pound round steak
  • 1/8 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 6 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1/2 green pepper, sliced
  • 4 oz can mushrooms, drained
  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
  2. Place steaks in an 8" x 12" baking pan.
  3. Season steak with pepper.
  4. Place in oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, combine the tomato sauce, bay leaf, cloves, and lemon juice in a small sauce pan. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove steak from oven. Top the steaks with the onion, green pepper, and mushrooms; spread them evenly over the steaks.
  7. Pour sauce over the steaks.
  8. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil. Prick a few holes in top of foil with a toothpick to allow steam to escape.
  9. Return steaks to ovem and reduce oven temperature to 325° F. Bake for 1 1/2 hours more.
  10. Serve with brown or white rice.
