Recipe: Sweet and Sour Baked Beans
- 8 slices bacon
- 4 large onions
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 16 oz can lima beans
- 16 oz can kidney beans
- 1 lb 11oz jar New England style baked beans
- 2 (15oz) cans butter beans
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Fry bacon until crisp; drain, crumble and set aside.
- Peel and cut onions into rings.
- Simmer onions, sugar, mustard, salt and vinegar in bacon grease.
- Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, drain all beans except New England style and place in a 3 qt casserole dish.
- Add onion mixture and crumbled bacon to beans; mix thoroughly.
- Bake for 1 hour.
