Recipe: Tamale Pie



 

Recipes using McCormick Dark Chili Powder

 

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp Lawry's Seasoned Salt
  • 1/8 tsp white pepper
  • 16 oz can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  1. Preheat oven to 350° f.
  2. Combine cornmeal and water in pan.
  3. Gradually stir in boiling water, and butter.
  4. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  5. Cover, cook 5 minutes until mushy; cool slightly.
  6. Saute beef, onion, green peppr, and seasonings in a frying pan until meat is done to taste.
  7. Add the beans, and tomato soup.
  8. Line a geased baking dish with 1/2 of the cornmeal mix made in step 2.
  9. Top cornmeal with meat; Top meat with remaining cornmeal mix.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes.
