Recipe: Whole Wheat Bread
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 3 tbsps salad oil
- 2 1/4 tsps active dry yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsps sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 3 cups sifted white flour
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In small bowl, dissolve brown sugar in hot water.
- Stir in oil and let cool to lukewarm.
- Meanwhile, in large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water (sprinkle yeast on water and let stand until dissolved).
- Then stir in sugar and salt; beat in white flour.
- Stir in cooled brown sugar mixture.
- Stir in whole wheat flour.
- Dough will be sticky.
- Spoon mixture into 2 greased loaf pans.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk.
- Bake 30 minutes.
