Good Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies

Ingredients:

1 C sugar
1 C shortening, melted
1 C molasses
1 egg , beaten
4 C all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 C boiling water
extra sugar for sprinkling


Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix sugar and melted shortening together. Add the molases and egg. Whisk
dry ingredients together thoroughly and stir them into the molasses mixture.
Add the water and mix well. Let stand for an hour and then drop by heaping teasoonsful onto greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar on tops of cookies and bake 10 to 15 minutes. Let stand on cookie sheet for several minutes before removing to cooling racks. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
