Stupid Tub

New member
I got out of the bath this morning and couldnt get the stupid faucet to turn off all the way. I got Jon to try it and after a lot of fooling with it he made it worse. There is no shut off to the tub. To turn off water to the any of the tubs they have to turn off the water to the whole building
Sooo we have a steady bit of water running from the bathtub right now and have all day. It was hot water so Jon had me flip the breaker off to the water heater. That way atleast the water heater wouldnt be working all night. I told him not to bother it any more before it broke loose totally and flooded the room. At full force it would run out water quicker than it drained.
Repair guy is supposed to be here early tomorrow.
Ever since we had the fire in the bathroom a few years ago the bathtub has had a couple a cracks in it. The people they had fix the bathroom had patched the tub with some sort of compound. It is just one of those plastic tubs. I think it is a about time for a whole new bathtub! That bathroom is so small I can just imagine how much time and mess that is gonna take.

One landlord is hardly ever in. The other is always here but he has no idea how to fix anything plus this time of the year he is swamped downstairs with tax time. You just have to keep repeating what is wrong to him before he gets it and then he forgets it half the time. Half the time he calls me after the fact to ask ...now what was wrong? what did the repairman say he fixed....when was that again lol. The man is only in his 40's. To young to be that forgetful.

Sounds like you have had a bad day like me.lol...hope he gets it fixed soon.

Repair guy couldnt even get the thing loose to fix it. He sprayed it with some stinky compound to get it loose that gave me a headache. IF they stick with that tub they are gonna have to cut through the bedroom wall to get it out. OR they put in a new tub which means they will have to saw that one in pieces to get it out. Where was their brain when they designed this place? Now it leaking so bad it is getting into the floor. I have the shower curtain pulled to block it.

Stupid people just realized they have a leak downstairs they have been trying to find for 6 months. It is probably the tub. It has two other cracks in it that have been patched. Probably has smaller leak that I dont see.
Dear Lord does that stuff he sprayed on it reek! It stinks so bad we shut the door. You get a buzz from going in there long enough to use the bathroom and wash your hands. Gonna have to turn the water back on some time tonight and let the water heater refill and heat so we can get bath/shower and wash the dishes. They decide to rip that thing out tomorrow and it may be a few days before we get another one.
You should see where the dummies put the turn off valve for the water to the apartment. It is in between the washer and the water heater about a foot from the floor. You cannot reach it from the front. The repair guy asked me to turn it off for him and there was no way I could reach it. Then Jon tries it. He has long arms. He was able to get it finally lol. Why on earth they put it there Ill never understand. Poor Jon had to get a ladder and practically climb on the water heater and come at it from the top to even get it.
The guy said the tub wasnt even fiberglass. He said it was some sort of hollow cheap plastic thing. It was like when they designed this place and choose the things to put it and where they didnt think any of it would ever have to be replaced.
So far this year I have gotten the landlords for a ac repair and now this lol. It could be time for a nice pie or loaf of bread to suck back up
I am afraid this bathtub nightmare is gonna be a big long drawn out mess.
On the bright side they are the ones with the bill and not me.

A bath tub leaking and water not shutting off sounds like serious issues. I'm glad that you were finally able to get the water shut off. Your landloard is an idiot.
Water leaking and not being dealt with can cause serious mold issues in the future from the water going behind drywall and the wood structure of the framing. If you had threatened to call the local building department or even the department of health he would have fixed the problem right away. I would suggest that you call them any way. Several months from now the mold spore count should be rather high. If the smell of WD40 or a like product bothers you I am sure mold will be even worse.
FYI, fiber glass is plastic. I would thing that the cracking is due to the the installer of the tub didn't put any type of mud base under the tub before setting it in place. A product called Structolite is usually used under fiber glass tubs to distribute weight under the entire base of the tub. Usually the tubs just have a few plastic feet on the base and a flange around the tub. Watch when the old tub comes out. Look at the bottom of the old tub.

I had not thought of the mold. Jon and I are both allergic to it. I bet that is why our allergies stay so messed up.
The landlord said he is talking to a couple places here in town about what they can do about the tub. The plumber said it is gonna have to be yanked out and thats all there is to it. So it is a wait and see for now. I guess he just wants to see if it holds til he finds someone to tell him what he wants to hear or it busts out worse. I think he is looking for the cheaper way. If he gets someone like Bath Fitters to do it he is gonna pay more than just replacing the tub.
If they have to tear out part of our bedroom wall to put in a new tub its gonna be a nightmare.

lol They plumber was talking about the landlords weak handshake. Said he shook hands more like a girl.

The guy who fixed the ac asked me if I had ever seen the landlord with a woman lol. I was like uhhh no...but I dont exactly keep a look out either lol. The landlord is 50 or so and lives at home with his Mom and Dad. His Dad is a preacher. Maybe I can get Kevin his number lol. You know how small towns are

RE: "Maybe I can get Kevin his number lol. "

Ha, janie!

Well... maybeeeeeeee.... but sometimes, I kinda like a strong handshake too! Hee-Hee!

Im not sure why people keep asking me about the guy. He is my landlord and Im not his keeper. People seem to think he is hiding his preferences cause his Dad is a preacher. His preferences make zero difference to me and if it does to everyone else then that it their problem. So what he doesnt have a girlfriend? I never even dated a guy til I met my husband and I was 28 then. I can imagine there was talk about me to lol.

I'm with ya, janie!

I've found that folks always seem real interested in others' sex lives- and if there ain't enuf "knowns" most aren't above makin' some up! And among these people, sometimes the more "exotic" or "whacko", the better the tale-tellin'! Sheesh!

Today I keep no secrets... but years ago before I was totally out and open, I had some co-workers who liked to think they knew all there was to know about my love-life and they weren't above startin' rumors and passin' around untruths. One day I cornered a couple of them on it and told them I only WISH my real life was as adventurous as they were making it out to be. Once I assured them that my own life was likely just as boring as their own- I think they realized that just because someone might be "different" on certain levels doesn't necessarily make them a deviant or a nut-case! I think what scared them was that I was really more LIKE them, than many others were.

I have a cousin who is like a year older than me. Years ago they used to have the family reunions at my Mom and Dads cause we had a huge yard. One year all of my Moms sisters and brother along with some busy bodies on my Dads side let my cousin who had just come out know she wasnt welcomed to the reunion.
That made me boil! She stopped by a few days before the reunion to let us know she wasnt coming. I took her out on the porch and told her my Mom, Dad and I all welcomed her. It was our house and if the rest didnt like it then they could kiss my tail. My aunts and uncles are the biggest bunch of religious hypocrites you ever want to meet. I normally took a cooler of cold diet pepsi and a stock of videos to watch and stayd in my room all day when it was going on. I told her if she wanted to come Id stay by her side the whole time and trust me I would have peeled anyone alive who said anything out of the way to her. I told my younger sis to let me know is she showed which she did with her brother. I went out and hung out with them for about an hour til they left. My aunts and uncles had enough sense to catch the look I shot them when ever they came over to talk. Be nice or else
I had a hard time tolerating that crew anyway and the thought of them ganging up on her didnt sit well. Im very easy going til you mess with me or mine then its on. Bunch of bullies should have practiced some of what they preached.
