Healthy lunch ideas

I am always trying to eat healthy at lunch and to brown bag as much as possible.

Sometimes I have a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread, with either pretzels or homemade chex mix, and a piece of fruit.

What are your good ideas for eating a healthy lunch?

Salads, veggies, fruits, adding egg, cheese or meat to the salad with balsamic vinegar or lemon juice.

I'm not a big eater myself, a simple cheese sandwich and a hard-boiled egg is good enough for me. If I'm feeling bold, I'll throw in a cookie.

I hardly have time for lunch before 3pm. Typically I have some fruit (bananna) and crackers.

A lot of times I don't eat lunch, I just have a slightly larger dinner. Sometimes I won't be hungry the whole day, and that hunger never catches up with me. It's weird...

This is one of the biggest problems I have. A lot of the time I eat out during lunch time and I'm trying to get out of that habit and eat more healthy. Some things I bring to work:

cottage cheese
grapes
nuts of some sort (right now its pistachios)
tortilla chips and salsa (though its not entirely healthy its a good substitute for fries).
Salad

etc. I usually like to bring small amounts of lots of different things, to keep me interested.

I don't eat a large breakfast so when lunch time rolls around I find I'm famished. Nonetheless, I, too, try to bring along healthy fare with me. I bring yogurt and fruit, sometimes I take a slice of veggie pizza which I nuke, in the cooler weather I often bring soup, frequently I take salad in a Tupperware container. I've even taken the hummus with some pita bread. As long as it's filling, I do try to make healthy choices because by dinner time I feel an impulse to eat anything that isn't nailed down. :)

This is a good idea, mantua. "Snacky" but healthy sort of items to munch on.
I admit that the "presentation" keeps me interested too. I purchased some of these...http://www.laptoplunches.com/ Compact little servings.

Small things amuse big kiddies, what can I say? :)

A friend told me about this blog on which there are healthy vegan lunch ideas.

So many of my co-workers think I'm a "stick in the mud" for not wanting to lunch w/ them on an almost daily basis. Not only do these bistro lunches add up, but they go straight to the hips, too. Those days are gone for moi. LOL I brown bag/containerize it.

Well our dinner was not healthy we has sloppy jo with fries I know I am bad I am hoping that I can learn some really healthy food ideas here.

Pita pockets are fun to have for lunch - you can stuff them with sliced veggies and spread the insides with hummus and then add something like crumbled cheese or chicken strips.

Oh yeah. I love pitas. I forgot about them. I w ill have to have that next week.

I love to ziploc a bag of baby carrots (already peeled) and add garlic flavored balsamic vinegar with a twinge of sugar. If the vinegar doesn't have garlic in it you can either leave it out or add a bit of garlic powder. I also love to add some cucumber slices as well. Yum---healthy substitute for the crunch factor that you get from high calorie "chips".

Every day I have a fat free turkey(4 oz) sandwich on light wheat bread with 1 oz of "WOW" chips (these are fat free also)

When I'm looking at eating healthy lunches my thinking turns to salads. Since right now is the peak of vegetable growing in the US, there's lots of delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, etc that are only available locally right now. So I'd say, nice tomato, cucumber, chick pea and onion salad with Italian dressing, and a side of whole wheat pasta salad made with Salad Supreme would be a nice healthy and tasty lunch. Buy the vegetables locally so they still have their flavor intact.

to make it healthier use 93% groung beef and put it over a baked potato. Thats how I eat sloppy joes when i get a craving

I only buy 90% or higher ground beef, or lean ground turkey ... not the regular ground turkey. The meat people alway toss scrap fat into the meat when they can. We prefer whole wheat buns for Sloppy Joes.

Apples are a great food for lunch along with a small salad and a nice piece of an interesting bread like pumpernickel.

How about an egg sandwich? Has anyone seen that commercial about how good eggs are? I'm going to start eating more eggs.
