Food Nostalgia

I caught myself wanting 1-2-3 Jello the other day. My mom used to make it for us all the time and it always seemed to taste better than regular jello. I know there are tons of recipes for similar stuff but the prepackaged stuff always made it so easy and it tasted great.

What other foods does everyone miss?

There were some little sugar/spice covered mini donuts that we used to get in the freezer section. I can't remember who made them, maybe Morton's. They were so crisp and sweet and delicious. I miss them.

Hostess Little Angels!! Those were cute little cakes and we used to enjoy them. With a glass of chocolate milk made with Bosco chocolate syrup! Also - I wish they still made VEEP - a lemon/lime drink! I wish I could find all 3 of them again!:(

I'm always searching for this recipe for a chocolate, oatmeal drop cookie that was served in my high school. They were super yummy!

Traciray - is this what you are looking for?

* 3/4 cup flour
* 1/4 cup cocoa (Hershey's or equivalent)
* 1/2 teaspoon soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
* 1/2 cup margarine or shortening
* 1/2 cup sugar
* 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
* 1 egg
* 1 cup quick oats
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
* 1 cup chocolate chips
* Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Sift together and set aside flour, cocoa, soda, salt and baking powder. Blend together shortening and sugars. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture, mix well. Add oats, vanilla, chocolate chips and nuts if used.

Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes for soft cookies, or 12 minutes for crisp cookies.

I loved all the diffrent TWIX candy bar varieties...

I came across this in our kitchen cabinet yesterday. It was tucked way back in the back corner. I looked at it and thought about making it, but the package said 3 hours prep time so I put it back. The picture makes the box look a little aged, but it's not. But, honestly, I don't remember when I bought it.

Hey that looks pretty close, I'm going to whip that up this weekend and give it a try!!

Thanks

Let me know - that just happens to be a school recipe cut down to normal proportions!:p

Oh by the way - I don't know how old you are - but back in the "good old days" the schools used dried eggs in cooking and baking! And throughout the years they also used basic mixes that they could do several things with.

I guess I own a piece of history ... at least for the moment. It looks like the box is from 1996 from what I read.

OMG - I hope you don't eat it!! Don't tell us you also have foods in your refrigerator that need to be carbon-dated!!!

:confused:

As much as I'd love to make some I don't think I'm desperate enough to make some from 1996. ; P That's still pretty cool that you happened to have some in your cabinet. Nothing sticks around my kitchen long enough!

The other thing I could think of that I miss is Surge. Vault just isn't the same. *sigh*

I used to get Land O Lakes cookies in the grocery store, they were so good. They were a pale yellow thick shortbread type of cookie, but very moist, with a thick layer of creamy icing on top, which was very buttery (duh!). My mother and I used to stalk them, but they stopped making them. :(

I made these last weekend and the recipe was right on, as good as I'd remebered. Thanks so much!

Okay, this isn't a product so much as it is a sandwich I hadn't eaten since I was, oh, I'm guessing in fourth grade for some reason. Anyhow, a friend mentioned today that she'd made cream-cheese-and-jelly sandwiches for her toddler son and I was all "I REMEMBER THOSE!"

And of course I had to rush right off to the kitchen and make some for me, er, I mean my kids.

Yum.
