Pasties from England

Ingredients:

5 C Flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 C Shortening
3/4 C Water
1 C shredded carrots
1 C shredded potatoes
1/2 C chopped onion
1 lb lean ground beef
Dash of pepper
Dash of nutmeg

Directions;

Sift flour and 1/2 tsp.salt into a large bowl; cut in shortening until the size of peas. Add enough water to moisten and hold pastry together. Divide dough into six equal portions; shape each into a round ball. Combine remaining ingredients. Roll out each ball of dough into a circle; place one-sixth of the vegetables-meat filling on half of the circle. Fold other half of circle over mixture. Seal edges with water and press with a fork. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Prick holes in top with fork to allow steam to escape. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Some people eat these right out of hand like a sandwich, some eat on a serving plate with brown sauce. Can be enjoyed hot or cold. Some people add shredded turnip to vegetable mixture - I, personally, don't like it! But these are versatile - do whatever tastes best to you. :D:D
