A message to our little family here -

Mama Mangia

Super Moderator
As you can already see - the spam smart azzes have struck again.

Aren't they cute? Those maggot low-life...............

I did make a post to them all - and now I am putting this here for you -

Mama doesn't like spam.
You know it.

And Mama doesn't like you responding to the spam attackers.

I do not want you egging them on.

You have the maturity to see the post and IGNORE it completely.

You know it will be deleted.

So why would you take the time to make a post to "bury" a post? It makes no sense.

Post a recipe instead - it takes just as much time.

Let the spammers play with themselves - they will be dealt with.

Thank you for listening.

Mama

Well, Mama, now you have me really confused.

Last time this came up, you and I exchanged a number of emails, the crux of which was that you could not delete those posts, nor could you ban any posters, not deny anybody membership.

This is different from every other forum and message board on the net. But, what the heck. You're the moderator.

Now, in contradistinction to that you say you can delete them. And you slap my wrist for doing what I can to get rid of them.

If anything doesn't make sense it's that.

You know I've spent a lot of time trying to help make this group what it is. I've brought in lots of new blood, all of whom are good contributors. I've started numerous threads, so the group would remain active. And I've worked with you and Matt behind the scenes.

And this is what it comes to? I'm at fault for trying to keep the list clean?

Well I'm no longer going to try and keep up with your contradictory messages. It's your group. Enjoy it. But don't look for any more posts from me.

Oh, yeah. Just for the record, if you actually had to type recipes, as I do, instead of cutting and pasting, as you do, you would have a realistic feel for how long it takes.

I thought she was talking to me for the two times I had posted in the spammers threads. I was wondering myself about why some threads and posts can be deleted and some cannot.

I for one love Brook and do not in any way shape or form want to see him leave our forum. Mama I kind of thought it was a neat idea Brook had to just start new threads and out post the stupid spammer:) That was why I made my post about appreciating our Hands!!! Now I do hate to see personal conflict played out on here or any forum for that matter. Can we please just agree to disagree, but allow one another the respect of being able to have the freedom to deal with the spammers however we see fit, and not allow them the opportunity to cause us unnecessary drama and hard feelings please. And I do apologize if I have by posting this reply I have over-stepped my boundries, it's just I feel very strongly that we have a great thing going here and I hate to see anything so STUPID as spammers make us all get tangled up with each other and out of sorts with one another when WE SP Members are if fact NOT THE PROBLEM! God Bless you both and please Brook don't leave:eek: I love you! "Sis" Chatty

Brook - you got it wrong -

I said that there are certain threads in which I cannot delete spam. that is the way it is set up.

Now - please read the email I am going to send you in a bit -

Thank you.

No apology needed by anyone at all - we are family.
Brook misunderstood me in a PM when I said that there are certain threads in which I cannot delete spam.

No drama, no hard feelings - families don't do that - they understand. You are being polite by saying the spammers are stupid - I have much better language to use on them - but they wouldn't understand Italian.

We all agree on our feelings about spammers - and as long as the internet is around - spammers will be too.

Now you know why I do not welcome very many people when they join - I may have to hit the button on them.

So don't even worry about it - if one hits a thread I cannot delete - then we can give them the business! Italian style! LOL

Well - for the record - yes - most of my recipes are in my computer or on disks (yep still got them too) and CD's. Throughout the years and the changes in operating systems and various recipe programs - I've typed each of these recipes a heluva lot more than just once.

So I can now copy'/paste - I put my time in - many, many hours - for many, many years - so I sure don't feel guilty being able to!

No - as I said to Brook in an earlier reply - there are a few threads in which I cannot delete.

Can I make some suggestions here? I know this software (Vbulletin) like the back of my hand. I am a Level 7 Vbulletin Coder:

vBulletin.org Forum - Show Groups (See Jafo232).

I run forum networks that get more posts in one day, than this forum has ever has.

Recommendation: This software is WAY out of date. It needs to be upgraded badly. There are so many security vulnerabilities for this version, it is a shock the site hasn't been hacked yet.

Once upgraded to the latest version, Vbulletin has created a new feature which uses Akismet to beat back spammers.

I designed a plugin to actually do this before they made it a feature. It became quite popular and I think it gave the VB team the idea.

Akismet will check a post to see if it has been marked spam on other forums, contains links that have been used in spam, and check IP addresses to see if they have been flagged for spam. The post is either put into moderation, or outright deleted depending on how you set it.

You can also submit spam to Akismet to beat the spammer before he can spam somewhere else.

We waste a lot of time in here talking about, and dealing with spammers. If the admin of this site would just upgrade the software, it would end over 95% of this.

Just my two cents..

Hey gang- I'm guilty as anyone of sometimes misinterpeting something someone "says" at forums such as this... I've often read something between the lines that wasn't really there, or visa-versa. So I understand- I truly do. But let's not let icky spammers come between us.

I love this place- and I care for the people.

Ain't no finer folks than Brook and mama... and it pains me to see any bickering. Whether it's justified or not- it still pains me... so please- everyone- make a kind effort.

I've felt pressured to leave forums before due to tasteless conflict resolution... and it sucks. Sometimes I see both sides (like in this case) and sometimes not... but as dumb-azz as it sounds- let's please just all get along. I don't want that empty feeling of wandering aimlessly without an online kitchen home any more, ever again. Been there- done that and I ain't partial to it, one bit.

Thanks to all for doing the nice thing.

I am sure Mama and Brook will work out their problems.
Kevin who is that in your new avatar? What an adorable picture!

From day one...I was made to feel welcome here. We are family. As all family member's that care about one another we have different opinions. That is what makes us unique.I'm thankfull I have ALL of you as my " online " friends.

There should be no hard feelings from anyone - I am not the site owner/administrator - or I would handle spammers my way and I would not have to deal with them.

And there is no reason for anyone to think we don't get along.

It's not worth getting into any conversation regarding the idiots that want to ruin a site (spammers) we all feel the same about them anyway.

I cannot control the software or update it - believe me I would.

I am just deleting the unwanted posts that I can.

In the meantime - there is nothing that can be done because of the way this is set up other than what I am doing.

We can talk about this until we are blue in the face - but there is no need - we all feel the same about it.

Just ignore the spammers - there are other ways we can get them.
