I know the first day of Fall is the 22nd of Sept. but it has really been getting cool here at night. For the last week it has been getting down to 50 at night. Thankfully the day temps have gone down to the lower 80's. I will miss the garden goodies but I love Fall.
Normally here it doesnt cool down at all til mid October. It already feels like it is a few weeks into Fall. The leaves are turning already.

Here too, janie! I love Fall. in addition to the cool temps, already I see even the very beginnings of change in the color of the leaves. I'm all for an early Fall if it translates into an extended period of enjoyment of the beautiful foliage and such... but if it means an early baring of the trees, and a longer period of that gray, bare-bones skeleton-tree look... well, then, I'd just as soon hang on to summer a while longer! We shall see... Our August was cooler than usual- and so far September truly feels like Autumn- I wonder if we'll even get an Indian Summer this year?

It has been cooler here to at night and in the mornings. I love Fall and the color change . If it would stay fall all winter that would be great ! I really don't like cold weather at all.

Of the two I'll take the cold over the heat & humidity. I figure I can always put on another sweater. But once I'm down to my skin there's no place left to go.
I've always maintained, however, that when I become emperor of the universe the first change I'm going to make is that there will be two Octobers and no February!
But until then we'll just have to accept what the Mother gives us. And the past few days she's been treating us just perfectly.

Francie- how cool does Fall get in Mississippi? Here in Illinois our nights are already dipping into the low 50's/upper 40's and daytime temps have been beautiful- 70 or so. This is VERY cool for us for this time of year. It should still be in the 80's and low 90's... But I ain't gripin' one bit! Like Brook, I will take cooler weather over hotter ANY day of the week! And I like his idea of 2 Octobers!
I find the BLUE of the Autumn sky to be the very bluest ever... When I look back at photos over the years taken throughout every season, it seems the blue of an October sky is always much deeper than photos from any other time of year...
In Alaska Fall begins in early August. About the only leaf-bearing trees up north (most trees up there are one form of evergreen or another- pine, spruce, cedar and the like) are birch, aspen and cottonwood- which all turn golden. So up there no scarlets or oranges... just GOLD for as far as the eye can see. It's beautiful- though I always missed the pallette of all colors from the hardwoods here in the midwest- the oaks, maples, sycamores, hickory, etc...
