Food Diva Smack-Down/Throw-Down Old Fashion Rasslin'-Match! Did You See It?

Wow! Did You See/Hear Martha S. on Rachel R.?

On Joy Behar's show a panel watched an interview w/ Martha on a ABC's Nightline... Martha kinda slams Rachel! I could hardly believe my ears!

While not being mean about it, per se- Martha said essentially (not verbatum) Well, Rachel cannot bake and has never professed to- and she just came out w/ a new cookbook that is basically just a re-edit of old recipes- not even really in a new format... and that's not good enough for me. When I put out a book I want it to be full of new and fresh information that provides a lasting need- I want it to educate and add substance to a person's library and stand the test of time... she's different, she's more of an entertainer- not really a teacher like me.

The panel on Behar's show laughed and called this interview a smug condescending caricachure of Martha... and said that the elites of the Martha Stewart world will never understand the real and everyday appeal of the "every man" .

Reportedly Rachel was sweet and gracious and said Martha's skillset is clearly beyond mine- but that doesn't mean that I consider what I do to be unimportant. I just think Martha's being honest- afterall, I'd rather eat Martha's food, than mine too!

Wow! I still LOVE Martha- and although I'm no big fan of Rachel I would never say her skills are pointless or that her methods don't desere a following... Still... DANG!

I had read about her comments regarding RR. I thought they were pretty typical for MS and pretty rude.

MS might have picked up some new "Social Graces" in the Big House.

Amen Brother!

I also admire Rachael for being so graciuos, my estimate of her just went up marginally!!! My grand-daughter always says "She's adorible" evey time we see Rachael on TV, she over heard me say it one time and now it's her saying don't you know! Of-course I now see Rachael as being much more a woman than just "adorible" since she has handled all this so beautifully! Also do not forget it takes something to become rich as she is at such a young age :D CODDOS FOR RACHAEL!!!!

Oh I just love Rachal. Even if she couldn't cook she is just so cute. BTW Cathy I saw your picture on the "Show us what you look like" thread. Gee girl, You're a Fox.

 (((BLUSH> BLUSH))) Thanks! Really my bosses wife is an amateur photographer and she just did a great job!!! And a good photographer is hard to come by!

Martha Stewart is not a professionally trained chef either is she?

No she's not. She was a model and then became a stockbroker. The whole catering thing that started her enterprises was untrained.

I don't think she calls herself a chef - she calls herself a teacher.

None of that makes her any less rude, however!

I many times have defended Martha Stewart, I take it all back now- just as a matter of public record  SO THERE Humph!!! :D

Am I the only one who remembers, back long BFN (before food network) I'm not even sure the magazine was started, Martha was under scrutiny for "borrowing" some Chinese recipes from a well known Chinese cookbook writer???

I did a search, but I think it might have been before google and our other friends?

If memory serves me, it sort of went away, like "settled"?

Martha isn't really my style, I'm waiting for Ina to invite me out to the Hampton's!!
I questioned Martha's conviction simply because of the paltry amount?

Nan

I'm not a big fan of Martha Stewerts but I am a fan of a couple of her shows on PBS. Everyday Food and Everyday Baking. She doesn't cook or bake on either of the programs. I'm really glad of that, lol. She reminds me to much of my mother.

I have nothing negative to say against Rachel other than she just doesn't reach me, personally. BUT, she does reach MANY and that's the point. She has definite high worth and value.

Martha? No one challenges her genius or Queendom at all- but she should have stayed the good & kind mentor and remained above it all. To me- that's her ONE draw-back... she's just sometimes puts up a barrier that she appears to wish others to remain on the other side of. She creates distance and often is less than generous and charitable in her ways.

One thing to remember too- Martha's book and tv products ARE absolutely fantastic- BUT, they're likely rarely the product of JUST Martha- rather, it's Martha- and her unlimited resources- including a staff of a THOUSAND.

Her convict experience doesn't negatively impact my feelings about her, whatsoever. The way they made an example of her had me so fired-up. Hell- if I'd have lived near her prison I'd have baked her a bundt w/ a file hidden in it!

As a Martha-lover, I guess what irks me most about her is so often her misbehavior leads her staunch supporters to feel they must defend her in the face of some really awful stuff. Cool it, Martha! We like liking you- but sometimes you make it so hard!

Maybe every time she decided to speak she should hold her tongue and first ask: "WWJD?" ("What Would Julia <Child> Do?" Julia was far too classy to ever have put her foot in her mouth in such a manner.)

So, we're all sitting around the table this afternoon and a couple of us start talking about the big "Martha-stuck-her-foot-in-her-mouth incident". My cousin's 9 yr. old boy screams: "well, looky there- Martha's gonna beat out Kanye for dummest thing said all year long!"
