How Are You Guys Doing?

Things seem to be kinda slow on here recently.
I was just curious how everyone is doing? I'll start...

I got four heirloom tomato plants in the mail today from Brook the Brat ;)
Thanks again Brook.
I cannot wait to get them into some pots. Def gonna save seeds from them.
My mother in law and her second hubby left on vacation for a week today. They took the two oldest grankids with them. Jon and I have to go to their place every day and feed their outside dog. Have to walk her and give her a break from her kennel. She has a pet fish I have to feed. They have this crazy alarm system down there that I hate to mess with. It is one of those that sends the police if you dont know the password when they call  I hate to fool with that thing. Have to get the mail and newspaper for them. Something is wrong with the alarm system and they are supposed to come check it in a few days. I really hope that crazy system doesnt go off in the middle of the night like it has been. The guy took their garage off the system cause something is wrong with that part of it.

Our family is doing good. My father in law is big into getting out gardens right now. They put out 300+ tomato plants at Jons brothers a few days ago. Still hard to catch a break in the rain to get much in the ground right now. My sis and her cutie pie kids are doing good. Here are a couple of little pics she sent me from when they went to the park a few days ago.

I saw this pic and had to get it for Kev. ;) It is a shot from the filming of New Moon in Italy.

Dang, janie! The pics didn't come thru for me! Only boxes w/ red X's in the upper-left corner. (AGGH!)

Thanks for catching us up on all w/ you!

I'm good here in my remote neck o'the woods. Not a whole lot going on- I've actually had the great chance to work lotsa over-time lately 'cuz many folks have been taking vacations. I know what you meman though- it has been sorta slow here. I miss folks! Where's Jeff, Francie and all the gang? I've seen mama, CanMan, Cookie, Cath, MsMai and most the others here and there... This time of year folks are enjoying gettin' outside again, I imagine. Still, I miss our l'il family here!

janie- I work w/ various home and office alarm systems these days. Here at State Farm Corporate CMS (Central Monitoring Services), where I work, we monitor the security systems of 7000 agent's offices around North America. My entire night is spent receiving burglary, fire, environmental/mechanical, communication failure, and personal panic and/or medic alarms.

On any given night we receive 25-100+++ burglary alarms, call 25-100+++ different police departments, and wake-up as many or more agents and other keyholders on after-hours, emergency call-lists.

Sounds like for unknown reasons to arm-up the system at the main panel (or a remote wireless keypad) you've had to bypass the garage sensors, yes? There could be serious reasons for, (or easy remedies to) this.

If you have any difficulties, PM me and maybe I can offer assistance. I'd be happy to help if you run in to any snags, dear...

Oh.. I remember you couldnt see the pics I posted before.
That is a pic of one of Edward from New Moon shirtless. Have you read the scene from New Moon where he is standing by the town square clock in Italy about to let the sun hit his chest. He thinks Bella is dead and it trying to provoke to Volturi into killing him. I saw that pic and I was like .. Kev would appreciate this lol. Later Ill save the pics to a different format and see if you can see them.

Your exactly right about the alarm system. The past few weeks the garage alarm has been going off several times a night. I imagine their neighbors want to kill them. The guy came and took the garage off of the system before they left yesterday. He told them he had to order parts or something. If he comes back to change anything before they get back he is supposed to call me. I had written down how to bypass the garage but since it is disabled for now I dont have to worry about it. I asked her what company they got it from and she just said someone out of Lexington. When she described the guy who maintains it for them she said he has bad body odor lol. I was like uh.. sounds like a great place
Jons in the shower now so we can go take care of their place soon. They are giving really bad storms to hit here soon and I wanna get their place done so I dont have to go out later.

Yeah where is everyone? This place is kinda deserted.

Oh, I'm still around, just listening more than I talk, as usual. I've mostly been busy tuning up my telescope and plan to put it to good use tonight after a stretch of cloudy nights. Made a strawberry cake this morning, I cheated and used a mix. Made whipped cream frosting and put a layer of that and a layer of sliced strawberries on the first layer, then finished frosting the whole thing and put a thick layer of sliced berries on top. That just about sums up my week so far.

That cake sounds so good. Makes me hungry. I have some frozen strawberries in the freezer I think I am going to turn into sorbet tomorrow.
Nothing but clouds here and for the next few days. Severe thunderstorms and flash flood warnings for tonight.
Gardens are just not growing well here. They are actually getting to much water. Plants are rotting in the ground.

I got my little tomato plants potted today and out on the balcony. Took care of the MIL's dog and fish. She slipped her leash on me when I was going to put her back in her kennel so I had to yell for Jon to open the door to the house and call her inside. Worked like a charm. It was so hot and muggy out there today. By the time we got her leashed up, walked and fed we were both a sweaty mess.

Nope, janie! (UGH!- sounds like a dandy, though- fer sure!)

Bubba- your cake sounds purty good! Also- don't fret about usin' a store-bought box-mix. I usem' often myself- always got at least one in the pantry- right alongside the small blue boxes of Jiffy cornbread mix!

The cake is a take-off from a cake I make quite often using a dark chocolate cake mix and cherries. It tastes pretty good. Was a good night for some viewing last night, clear skies and fairly stable air. Got a nice view of Saturn, but the rings are more edge on now so it looks kinda like a ball with a pencil pushed through it. I have an 8 inch Dobsonian reflector scope now but for next year the plan is to get a 6 inch computerized refractor or 6 inch Schmitt-Cassagrain. The refractor I'm looking at is a bit over 50 inches long, a real yard cannon, so I'm leaning toward the Schmitt because of the shorter length and ease of handling.

Sounds awesome, Bubba. I love sky-gazing, though my interest is just novice-level, if that. You'd love visiting Alaska and seeing the Aurora Borealis- or have you?

Believe it or not, I have a framed stitching on my kitchen wall that offers a link between astronomy and cooking! It reads: "To make an apple pie truly from scratch, first you must invent the universe." -Carl Sagan

griz, I'd love to go up there and see that but it's unlikely I ever will. I saw the aurora once years ago in Colorado and it's awe inspiring. I was a truck driver back then and pulled off the road and watched it dance for an hour.
I really liked Sagan, I have his Cosmos series on DVD and I think I can say he got me interested in astronomy beyond the casual naked eye level.

Here's a view of the Aurora for ya, Bubba- enjoy! Taken near Pioneer Peak in the farming region of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley near Palmer/Wasilla.

MIL came home a day early from their trip. She became ill.
I am off of dog duty. Unfortunately on the last day Jon was playing with their dog and the dog ran into Jon hitting him hard under the chin. It caused his lower jaw to ram upward hard and broke one of his crowns. Have to get him an appointment at the dentist in the morning. This is not gonna be cheap to fix.

I'm drained and need a vacation. I have so many projects to do and they are due on Tuesday. I have to edit a video, get a PowerPoint presentation together, then write 11 pages of paper.

Wow SIG sound like a boat load of work you've got there!!! I know you can do it! Just don't despair it will all be over & done before you know it! Sometimes I think we get so over-whelmed by all we have to do when we look forward, but once we just jump in and start doing it and getting it all knocked out and are done then...we wonder why we ever stressed over it all in the first place;)

I hope when you are all done you can kick back and do some grillin' & chillin' and relax a spell!!!

Well....I have been busy busy busy ! But I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack ! lol...here to annoy and cause mayham ! OOOOPS ! I forgot...Mama is watching ! Guess I'll have to be a good little girl !
Wish I could go on a vacation. A month would be good .
