Our city coucil is voting on if it should allow a winery to operate here in Carter County. I have been past the farm where it is at. Looks nice to see the maincured grape vines growing at their place. I hope they get permission to operate but Carter County is dry so Im not sure how that is going to work out for them. Personally I hate the taste of wine. I use it occasionally to cook with.
 
Goodness a vote to allow a winery! How funny this day & age! Janie I am the opposite of ya I love me some wine!!! But with-in moderation of-course, as long as I am only mumbling and stumbling and giggling a little bit I know I can safely say I could Moderate a litttle more in my glass:D
 
Carter county is that where Carter Caves is located? I went camping there with my sister and her family this summer. I for one would love for them to put a winery there. It would be one more thing to do on a long weekend camping. I LOVE wine. We went to a winery in Indianapolis a few weekends ago. I think it would be good for your county.
 
Well, the county where Jack Daniels is made is also a dry county, but they seem to manage. I myself never understood why anyone would live in a place where alcohol is not allowed.

Where I used to live, there were five wineries and they do nothing but add a nice ambiance to the community.
 
geez - we have more wineries popping up than anything - grape territory here and yesterday we went for a ride past the farms - grapes flowing into 2 states and that's all you could smell for over 100 miles!
 
Yeah this is where Carter Caves is. The winery is in an area here called Iron Hill.
This area is heavily populated with bible packing holy rollers who will probably do everything they can to stop it. Ashland KY is about 20 miles or so from here and a wet county. I go there to get alcohol. I really like Disaronno Amaretto. The liquor store is pretty close to Kroger's and Big Lots so its pretty handy. We go over there to get my spices and stuff and make a day of it.
 
On the label of the wine we buy at our Georgia Wineries (where we go often) there is a scripture that speaks of everything in moderation and it has a scripture verse from Ephesians on it, I am not joking! We live in the bible belt too! It is a good verse reminding us against drunkeness. I sent my baby sister a bottle for their 25th wedding anniversary and she laughed and said only in Georgia would they do that!

OH and I later found out it was illegal for me to send wine thru the US mail:eek: and I am now a criminal and well ya' all might be having to write me when I'm locked up:D 'cept 1st they gotta catch me and find me guilty but the evidence is gone, and I do not recall mailing her a gift at all;) I also can not recall sending my sis-in-law a bottle either:confused: my memory is just not that good:D

I don't drink anything stronger than a Dr pepper .....except maybe once or twice a year... a glass of wine.I was exposed to people that did not know what moderation was and because of it have a great dislike for what alchohol does to people.

All kidding aside I can not stand drunkeness it is disgusting for so many reasons, and drunks are usually not very funny or cute either. I share your great dislike for drunks and their very putrid behavior!
 
Im with you Cathy. I cannot stand a drunk. I grew up with two for parents. I have had my fill lol. My folks were mean drunks. They drank and wanted to fight. Jon has one buddy who is an alcoholic but he is a lovey dovey drunk. You can always tell when he is hammered he leaves these messages on our machine about how much he loves us lol.
 
I myself cannot stand drunks, but the term drunks needs to be defined..

Myself, I think of a drunk as someone who needs to drink. Someone who cannot cope with reality unless they are drunk. They drink due to personal problems, and rarely to just blow off steam.

Now someone who occasionally just enjoys a crazy night out with friends and perhaps pasts their limit, to me isn't a drunk, they are someone who is drunk. :)

Honestly, all this talk has reminded me that I am way overdue for a night out with the boys.. In fact, I think I am going to make it a priority this weekend to get out one night.. Thanks everyone! :D
 
Jon's friend who is the alcoholic dumped a girl he was seeing because she took anxiety meds. He said he didnt want to be involved with someone who was dependent on medication in order to cope with things. I said and what do you think you do with your drinking?? Personally I think she was to good for him.
 
I've never had a taste for wine- nor any booze. I don't judge- ain't got a thing against those who drink in moderation and don't make a nuisance of themselves- I just never developed a liking for any of it.

In Alaska, many communities are dry. The booze and drug trouble amongst the native folks up there is really unfortunate. It controls many lives- and many of the youth, too. All of the oil and mining camps up north are dry...

I managed a fishing-camp out on the Aleutian Island chain. We were a dry camp and the drunk Bering Sea fishermen were SUCH a problem that when they registered into a room, they had to sign a wavier acknowledging that they were aware of our no possession of alcohol/no intoxication policy AND our $1000.00 fine. If they broke the rules, the captain of their boat was fined a thousand bucks and he in turn deducted it from their pay. It was nothing for me to levy $20,000.00 in fines on a Friday Night! Also- I am 42 years old and have been hit/punched 4 times in my life. All four of those times were by drunk Alaskan crabbers that I was forced to deal with while managing that bunkhouse. Jeez- when I decided to become a chef no one ever told me I might end up getting the blazes knocked out of me on the job! Ha!
 
I had an uncle who was an alcoholic. When we were little he used to come to the house drunk and it would really freak us out but that doesn't mean all alcohol is bad. Anything has the capacity to be bad if it's abused. I love to have a glass or two of wine with or a couple cocktails with the girls and since my knee surgery it's wonderful to relax with a glass of wine in the evening. It relaxes my muscles from all the exercises I have to do during the day. All things in moderation that includes cookies, chips, soda, fast food and alcohol.
 
I Love two glasses of wine with a meal twice a week. I Love white wine or a blush wine with fish. I also love a Good Red wine (Merlot) with steak or Italian food. I try to limit myself to two glasses of anything per week. I agree every thing in moderation. Cookie :)
 
well they say that one a day is actually good for you. It works for the French so I go with that and end up having a glass with dinner about 5 nights a week. I love red zinfandel. That is probably my favorite over all but with something like a light fish dish I really like savignon blanc. In particular one that I found called pumello. It has notes of pumello and passion fruit. It's so refreshing on a hot day. Other favorites are Rioja, beaujolais, good pino noir, very dry riesling pretty much I like them all as long as they aren't too sweet.

Why you're welcome Jafo!!! I hope you have a good time. So you guys did not move so far away that you can't "pal around" with your old buddies? That is great.:)

How did your garden do after you moved away? Did the lucky person that inherited it keep you informed of the progress, or did you ask them not to since I know it'd break your heart.:(

You are so right about defining a drunk. When a person is a drunk as you pointed out.... it is speaking of an alcoholic who drinks and drinks daily, on the job, or not, and has lost control of their life and their ability to control their drinking. They have allowed the booze to take over, and take over it will. And it'll bite 'em in the ass as well! I find drunks to have one common denominator = obnoxious as hell, and often this is whenever,... drunk, sober or otherwise!!! I can see how this would make many turn away from drinking at all, especially if they had to grow up with it on a daily basis. That is sad, and I can certianly understand how it would turn a person against drinking altogether. But I like that you pointed out that all who drink are not terrible drunks, just us common guys and gals who enjoy a brew or a glass of vino or even a cocktail every now & then and also on our nights out! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Just do not drink & drive it is too dangerous;)
