My Thai friend gave me this veggie that looks like a zucchini but its pointed on each end and more narrow and a little soft. Its dark green. Any idea what this thing is? She gave me some of the longest green beans I have ever seen and some elephant garlic.

If you have any idea what this thing is let me know. Sorry about the lousy pic but my batteries are about dead in the camera.

Opo Squash

A long narrow variety of squash very similar to zucchini that is often considered to be an Asian squash since it originated in Asia. The outer skin can range in color from yellow to green while the inner flesh, which contains seeds, is firm textured and white in color. When young, the squash has a mild flavor, but as it matures the taste becomes increasingly bitter. It is a good squash for sautéing, stir-frying, or as an ingredient for soups and stews. It can be kept refrigerated for approximately 1 week. This squash is also known as Bottle Gourd, Hu Lu Gua, Long Melon, Long Squash, Peh Poh, and Woo Lo Kua.

Looks to me to be a Chinese (Asian) Cucumber, often called a "Long China". Very Mid-Early variety that is white spined and a beautiful light green. Very crisp texture and mild flavor.

I think its def a Chinese (Asian) Cucumber.
This one must be old cause its pretty soft to the touch.

What is chow mein?
The reason I ask is I took them some of the asian noodles I make and the Mom asked me what recipe I used and I told her the original recipe was called fried asian noodles. I added some of our fav asian flavors to it and changed it up a bit. I was promptly informed that it was not fried noodles ..its chow mein lol. I told her what ever worked for them lol.
The Mom is a heck of a cook. She is from Thailand and her kitchen always smells so good.
I was very happy when I heard her and her son enjoying my Thai inspired noodles. They both loved them.
They had gotten me a asian cookbook and the noodles came from a recipe in it. It was very simple. Just garlic and green onions cooked in some oil. Toss in some cooked noodles and soy sauce to taste.
Once I cook the garlic and onions a few minutes I then add about 1/3 cup soy, 2 tbs oyster sauce, 2 tbs fish sauce, 1/2 tsp ginger and 1-2 tsp sesame oil, 1-2tbs sriracha sauce, I also like to throw in a little black pepper. Once my sauce is all blended together I toss in one 12oz box cooked whole wheat linguine for the noodles. Cook in the sauce for 4-5 min then add in one beaten egg if you like and toss. Remove from heat and enjoy. Sometimes I add in some chicken or mushrooms.
