I got to meet KYH!!!

I have just got to share the greatest weekend my family and I have ever had in a long time..........

We left Fri. and traveled to Kentucky to attend the Heirloom Tomato Festival that KYH had invited all of us to back in July.

We stayed at a KOA in Renfroe Valley, KY that was a real "RITZY" top of the line campground. It was more along the lines of a A+++ Resort Hotel rather than a campground, they had a free shuttle van that was available to take campers to town for sight-seeing, shopping, dining and attending any of a number of Country Music shows! There was a swimming pool, putt-putt golf, movies, games and tons of activities available for campers.

The mountains in KY are the darkest prettiest shade of green and the state rightfully deserves the nickname "Bluegrass State" for the grass is so green it almost looks blue. When we pulled into the campground the temperature was an amazingly comfortable 70's and felt like KYH had actually turned on the A/C just for us:) Leaving Georgia and driving into that was heavenly to say the least, as August here is trmendously hot & humid.

We met KYH (Brook) and his beautiful wife early the next morning and followed them to "The Arboretum" located on the campus of the University of Kentucky (this is where the festival was being held). The Arboretum is a 100 acre botanical garden, it is wonderously beautiful! The festival itself was well attended and there were tomatoes there of every shape, size, and color (yes there are ripe tomatoes that are green, pink, red, purple, orange and even yellow!). My 8 yr. old "taste tested" tomatoes for a solid half hour with a huge smile on her face the entire time! I spent the majority of my time there talking with Brook, and getting alot of 1 on 1 info. from him regarding Heirloom tomatoes! Since he was giving a presentation at the event I counted myself more than a "little lucky" to be getting the inside scoop from a pro!

That evening I was the lucky recipient of a free ticket to a Ray Stephens concert and got to see the best performance imagineable by the artist of such terrific songs as "Guitar-Zan', "The Streak", and my favorite "The Pascagoula Squirrel in the First-Self Righteous Church"! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening out, and it was topped off with roasted hotdogs cooked over the coals when I returned to our cabin!

Well that's my story of our great trip to Kentucky and the Heirloom Tomato Festival, and meeting our very own beloved KYH!!!

Thanks Brook for the invitation and Count me in next year same time, same place!!! :D

Sounds like you had an awesome time.I have been to Kentucky a few times and always loved going there, It is a very beautiful state.

I didn't even know Ray Stephens was still alive, wow! Second time this week that happened. Yesterday I saw Judge Wapner on TV doing a skit for Fox Sports with Eric Byrd. I thought he passed away a long time ago.

Glad you had fun at the tomato festival. :)

Yeah Jafo he's a pretty old fellow but his voice is uncompromised by age. I'll never know how he does all the different sounds so perfectly, my goodness that Guitar-Zan song is in itself unreal, I love the pet monkey who likes to get drunkey and Jane's singing part when she says "shut-up baby I'm tryin to sing" to Tarzan as he is yelling his jungle swinging thru the trees sound!

Awesome l'il travel review, there Cathy! Thanks for sharing... The whole weekend sounds like it was wonderful- fantastic camping, a bounty of yummy 'maters, and getting to meet Brook and his wifey- and then seeing Ray Stevens sounds like it was just the icing on the cake! Did Ray sing "Ahab the A-rab"? He's such a hoot!

>and are so glad we went!!!<

As we were glad you came.

Only thing wrong with your visit was its short length. Next time plan on staying longer.
