We rarely use bottled BBQ sauce, but in a pinch I will buy the original recipe Kraft BBQ Sauce when I don't have time to make my own.

I like to try different sauces, and shop at SuperFresh where they have a surprisingly large selection of sauces. My current favorite is Pick-A-Pepper that's a Jamaican Sauce with a tangy orange peel flavor.
Once upon a time I used to use a lot of barbecue sauce before cooking on the grill, but after The Fire that destroyed my 5 slabs of pork baby back ribs about 10 years ago, I decided that the sauce is added after cooking.

I make my own barbecue rubs with simple quantities of sugar, pepper, paprika, and a few other spices like garlic and onion powder that turn out wonderful tasting grilled foods. Haven't made my own sauces, but I'd guess the ingredients are basic, and can be made easily without adding salt.

My favorite BBQ sauce is called Sweet Baby Ray's. This is some good stuff especially on grilled meats. It has like a sweet smoky kinda taste. Whenever I cook with it for guests they always comment on it.

I like Stubb's BBQ sauce. It a hint of spice, tang and sweet. Good stuff.

They have the sweet baby ray's at food lion here in charlotte, nc. I have seen it in a couple of other major grocery stores. Oh I just found their website. You can order from the website. You have to click on the sauce and then order I think. here is the link http://www.sweetbabyrays.com/

I've seen Stubbs when shopping at SuperFresh. Next time I'm there, I'll grab a bottle to try out.
Anyone ever hear of adding vanilla extract to barbecue sauce? I heard a strory on NPR (I think) about a sauce made by accidently spilling vanilla extract into the vat of tomato sauce, and the rest.

I second PoorGirl's choice of Stubb's BBQ Sauce. I prefer the Stubb's Spicy BBQ Sauce over the regular because I like the little kick in the spicy. Anytime I need some BBQ sauce I pull out the Stubb's. It adds a great taste to hamburgers as well as steaks, ribs, and chicken.

Have you ever tried Stubbs Dry Rubs? I really prefer to make my own rubs from scratch, but I like try others to broaden my reach in seasonings that I use.

I haven't tried any rub seasoning, in fact, I don't even use seasoning that often. You make your own seasoning? Seems like it'd just be easier to buy it.

I have never made my own rub seasoning. I bet yours is good though. ONe day maybe I can try. What types of seasonings do you put in yours.

Barbecue Sauce:
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons OLD BAY® Seasoning
1 teaspoon McCormick® Ground Mustard
1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Garlic Powder
3 1/2 pounds bone-in chicken parts
Vegetable oil
Directions
1. Mix all barbecue sauce ingredients in small saucepan. Simmer over low heat 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
2. Lightly brush chicken pieces with oil. Sprinkle generously with OLD BAY.
3. Grill chicken over medium heat with lid closed about 40 minutes or until chicken is cooked through, turning occasionally. Brush chicken with barbecue sauce during last 10 minutes of grilling. Serve with additional barbecue sauce on the side.

I also agree...Stubbs is good. I like the spicy as well. For meats, I like to use Stubbs. For my baked beans, I like to use Kraft Honey Hickory because it adds a nice smoked flavor to my beans.
