Dutch ovens and gas grills!

Am I the only lazy one here? I use mine on my gas grill. Put the DO of one side and light the other. My grill will idle down to about 225 or up to 400 with just one burner lit.

I have used my Dutch Oven on both the gas and the coals John. I love cooking up a pot roast outdoors durring the hot months. Also making up one of my favorites, a cherry cobbler. My Dutch Oven was a hand me down from my Grand mother, old, Cast Iron and very heavy. Best pot I own.

I do want to attempt very soon, the no knead bread recipe on the grill in the Dutch Oven.

When I was a kid- before my Mom got sick, she was big into history. Our family volunteered a couple of Autumns down at Lincoln's New Salem State Park- a log village where the future president lived a few years as a young man. Volunteers would dress in period costume and be trained to act and perform period tasks like soap-making, barrel-making, horse-shoeing, driving a team of oxen and a plow, etc. Mom and other ladies cooked hearth-side in a cast-iron Dutch Oven in one of the many hand-hewn log cabin residences and we ended up tasting some yummy things- mainly beef stew type meals. I didn't really enjoy it much then as a youngster- but looking back, it was pretty cool, really.

I found my 10" cast iron Dutch Oven in the "discard pile" when we were cleaning out my MIL house before she moved into an assisted living manor. I've even used just the lid on a normal 10" skillet when steaming a small amount of green beans or such.
