We go to my MIL's for dinner and she's a food nazi. She thinks we are all too fat(which we are). Everything is low fat, low sugar, low cholesterol, and low fun. Yack! There is nothing to look forward too. 
Thanksgiving is not a time for being "healthy", even if you are already eating unhealthy. It's a time to be thankful for the bounty of food we have available. I repent the day after.
I had one family that was kind of that way....vegetarian....so the meal was done accordingly. The food was good, but there is a limit on Tofu Turkey Casserole or similar substitute. I much prefer to carve a turkey and even participate in its making so I know what I am eating and can savor the fat and calories going into my body.

Your mil sounds like mine. I have heard her make comments to my sis in law and her two girls about weight. As a result both teenage girls are obsessive about their weight now.
She knows better than say squat to me but she does make mention occasionally about my cooking putting a belly on her son. My answer is always the same. Her sons lack of self control and metabolism has nothing to do with my cooking. Her food stinks when she makes the occasional holiday dinner. She cooks just like your mil. I have actually stopped and gotten myself a nice chef's salad and taken it to her holiday dinners to have for my dinner more than once. I can live without her dried out, over cooked, under seasoned food. Don't get me wrong ...we get along. I just dont put up with any of her crap. She knows I see right through it and tell her so.
If I were you I would cook my own little Thanksgiving feast the way I wanted it. Go to her house as planned and pick at enough of her crap to be polite then go home and enjoy a real meal. People like that just like to make themselves feel better by putting down others.
