My smoker is almost finished and I wanted to share



3136 Sq inches of cooking surface. That's 21.7777 sq ft

Rick, looking good. Really like the pullout racks. What size stack? Did you do any turning plates. You get some paint on that smoker gonna look great. CF:)

The racks are 28 1/2 x 32 on the bottom and 20 1/2 x 32 on the top. I'm going with a 6 3/4" x 36 " stack and I'll be using tuning plates eventually too. First I need to burn it in and get rid of the propane smell. I plan on having it all sand blasted too once everything is done. I've got an expanded mesh box being made for wood storage on the back side of the pit. Also I need to add counter weights to the doors. Can't find any solid info on those so it will be trial and error for that.
 
Found this one on the net, doesn't look to bad. I think it might be solid bar. But one could use pipe and fill with lead shot. CF:)

Rick, here is a photo of what I did in place of turning plates. In the photo the cooking grates have been removed. My pit is smaller than yours, so it works for me. Just an idea. CF:)
 
Only way I can think of it looking any better- you wouldn't wanna hear, Rick, 'cause it involves baby oil and scantily-clad athletes, HEE-HEE! :)

CF, I like your setup and thanks for sharing your pictures. I definitely need tuning plates. I did a burn in before I painted it and I had a 20 degree difference side to side. Hotter on the fire box end. Tuning plates will even it out for sure. She was real good on wood in my opinion. The first burn was an all out roaring fire to get it as hot as I could to season it. The second fire I installed the thermometers and did a more controlled burn. I used 4 lbs of lump charcoal and 6 pieces of oak for 8 hrs and maintained 220 to 240 degrees the whole time. It took about 35 minutes to get the pit up to temp. I wasn't sure how long it would take because of the thickness of the steel tank and the volume. But I was impressed with how quick it came up to temp.

I'll do my first cook tomorrow, and see how she cooks. I don't expect any surprises, but ya never know :confused:
