If you are going to fry that turkey...get you some canned buscuits...after frying your turkey, cut of your gas cylinder and just drop the separated canned buscuits in the hot oil. They will sink..and when the float to the surface they will be done.

Fried biscuits! Aren't those great! I love doing this. Not many people have heard of this, so it's nice to see others do it too!:)

I deep-fried a turkey one year and it turned out very good. But my patio was coated in oil, which then collected dirt and was a real mess to clean. I could not put the fryer any place other than the patio, because the yard is small and slopes, so the fryer would not have been level. The next year, I cooked the turkey on the grill and it was every bit as good as the fried turkey with much less mess. The grilled turkey was better than any one I ever made in the oven, and I will probably never make one any other way. I would certainly never try frying one again. It was very good, but just not worth the danger and the mess. I have a Big Green Egg ceramic grill that is large enough for a whole small turkey, but a larger turkey could be quartered.
