Uh... no gas lines that could leak or burst... no pilot lights that would blow out while I was up north for weeks at a time...

Gas - definitely - I hate electric!

Economically speaking - we're screwed with any utility company anyway - so the way I see it - if I'm paying for it - I want gas. at least I know I won't have any food problems.

I have always had a gas stove and love it. I have also cooked on a electric stove before when I was on vacation with the hubby it's OK. I think I don't burn as much on an electric stove as a gas stove. Maybe it's because I'm on vacation and don't have to rush. Cookie :)

Hmmmmmmm? For what it's worth:

1. All modern residential gas stoves come equipped with electronic starters. There are no pilot lights anymore (a shame, actually, cuz I hate those built-in starters). In fact, one of the reasons home versions of commercial stoves are so expensive is the building-in of auto starters (the other, of course, is the ridiculous codes regarding stove insulation).

2. Gas lines leaking or bursting? When does it happen? Two things to consider:

First, what few accidents of that kind happen most often involve propane in small tanks, such as are used for backyard grills. Next largest group (although any use of "large" in this context is a joke) would be rigs like mine. With natural gas? Almost unheard of.

Second: If you want to compare the number of fires started by faulty electric wires with the number of gas-related accidents it's no contest. Hey, check with your new people. I bet they have actuarial tables on that.

I'm not the sort to worry about things like that. But if I were I'd worry more about all the electric wires strung through the walls than I would about a gas line and stove.
