$5 for the whole bird. Thats unheard of. I'm always buying turkey steaks from Walmart. I divide them up into individual servings in sandwich bags and freeze them. Unfortunatly buying steaks (breast only meat) will run you over $5 for 4 itty bitty servings.
I went back to Walmart today to get my brother's groceries. He has MS and it is easier for me to get them and then he picks them up here. They had tons more of those turkeys for sale for .40 a pound. I just took mine out of its brine and got it ready to pop in the oven about 5am. Ill let you guys know how it is.
jglass you always do things first class. You are the best! Actually I am having company this weekend a friend from the Cayman Islands visiting I bought a ham today for breakfast on Saturday and I will make fresh scones, omelette, fruits and stewed prunes
Thanks Hon.
Your menu for Saturday sounds wonderful.
how'd the bird turn out, janie? You've got my mouth waterin' and all I got to look forward to in my sack-lunch here at work tonight is a ham & swiss sammie and chips!

I started baking it about 2am so I'm gonna check the temp about 5:30 or so. I always bake them wrapped up good and tight in foil til about the last half hour. Then I like to take off the foil to get the bird some color. I got some wonderful fresh sage at Walmart I stuffed inside the turkey with garlic, butter, onions and parsley. I put a compound butter of roasted garlic and sage between the skin and the breast. I rubbed the outside with olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs de provence. I already made a big pan of homemade dressing. I got some yukon gold potatoes at SAMS Saturday and I have some garlic roasting to make roasted garlic mashed taters. Jon's Dad loves them.
Walmart had tons of beautiful asparagus for 1.99 a pound so I got two pounds. Im going to roast them also. I made homemade broth for the gravy and have spring mix salad to take along. I just have to make some rolls and coconut pie and Im done.
I got so lucky at Big Lots today. I got the last three bottles of Balsamic vinegar they had. First time they had gotten in some in ages. They had gotten in lots of nice herbs and spices for the holidays. I found a tea kettle there today I love. I had been looking for one like it for years. Jon got me a spinning spice rack at SAMS today for $19 The herbs de provence alone in it would have costed $8 a Krogers. I couldnt have bought the spices it came with for $19 It was a pretty good shopping day lol.
