Your FAV new cookbook so far this year?

I ordered two more of the taste of home books a few days ago. I got soups, stews and casseroles and 2008 winners I think. I also got Ina's back to basics and one called Carmines that was italian recipes. I also ordered that artisan bread in 5 minutes a day.
 
I want Ina's newest book too, janie- but I've been waiting for USED copies to come down a wee-bit more in price. I like to buy when they come in under 10 bucks. I've got 2-3 others by Ina- but I need her Basics one, and also her Paris one...

I ordered THREE Michael Chiarello cookbooks a few days back. All $40.00 to $55.00 books I got USED for under 9 dollars each! What a STEAL! Here they are:

I also ordered an over-sized coffee-table book on European Cemeteries. Call me morbid- but I love graveyards- and cemetery sculpture and art... Can't wait to get all these books!

That is not morbid, but I would rather think interesting! My Dad used to take all 5 of us children to cemetaries and show us unique and historical things. I like to visit very old cemetaries, it is a lesson in how great we have it now-a-days in so many ways that we forget. For instance we stubbled across this old home cemetary plot out in California, it had homemade tombstones from way back during the early settlers peroid. The number of children and infants laid to rest in that plot was unhead of in todays world. It made me sad, and thankful at the same time. Back then medicine wasn't even available for streph throat and tosilitis, and ear aches. I gave a little prayer of thanks and paid my respects to those poor souls I never even knew, and was humbled. We all have so much to be greatful for.
 
I got my new cookbooks in the mail yesterday.
I got Ina's new one Back to Basics, Taste of Home Casseroles, Slow Cooker and Soups, Taste of Home Winning Recipes, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day & Carmines Family Style Cookbook.
I have to get a couple of things before I can try the Artisan bread recipes. I am very pleased with all of the new books.
 
janie- did you get them used at Amazon or were they your free introductories for a new club membership? I would love ALL of these books!

I received my 3 Michael Chiarello cookbooks and the European Cemetery book- and haven't had a chance to dive deep into any of them yet, but at first glance, I have great first impressions! :)
 
The Good Cook bookclub made me an offer I couldnt refuse lol. I even got a handy little cooler tote with my order. Your MC books sound awesome! I bet the European Cemetary book is very interesting.
Ina's book is wonderful. Easy recipes and ingredients I can actually get my hands on for the most part. A few things are out of my price range but most of them are things I can afford.
Taste of Home Casseroles ... Loaded with so many good recipes for casseroles, soups and stews. Im not a fan of casseroles but my husband and father in law love them. Casseroles are also wonderful to take to friends and family. I love soups and stews.
Taste of Home Winning Recipes - Yet another book loaded with tons of great recipes. I love this book.
Taste of Home Classics - I picked this one up at SAMS. Highly recommend this book. Easy delish recipes especially the dessert section.
Carmines - I am really looking forward to trying these. Some of the recipes are kinda huge so I will have to cut them in half.
Artisan Bread in Five Min a Day - I have to get a baking stone and a pizza peel before I try this.
 
I just received an order from Good Cook too. I especially like the Mark Bittman books. All of the Taste of Home books are useful to me as well.

I had one by Mark Bittman I think ...called How to Cook Everything.
It was the first cookbook I got after I got married. I gave it to my little sister several months ago.
 
This book looks great, janie! Aren't cookbooks just a FANTASTIC pleasure/hobby?

I'm still readin' my new (USED) Michael CHiarello books- not sure which cookbook I'll select next. But the FUN of it is, with the CHEAP prices of USED boks at Amazon, I can order new-to-me books often without feeling GUILTY over spending the $. When one can get a great condition $40.00 cookbook for the price of a big mac or a fancy-schmancy coffee, what's the harm in that? Hee-Hee! Are their any other places folks know of that offer USED books as an option?
 
I'm not aware of any other place where you get better deals that Amazon on used books.
People laugh at my cookbook collection. It is about half country cooking and half Italian with a few asian selections thrown in.
I went to the bank the other day and they had a local churchs cookbook for sale for $10. Most of the time those go for $5 - $7 but that one was very thin and $10. I have picked them up in the past but I passed on that one. They are a great way to get some really old recipes that have been around for generations. That one was to high. I was thinking I could get a great book for Amazon for ten bucks lol.

Books, not only for Eastern recipes
There are also books of the Western prescriptions

Janie I have the "Artisan Bread in five Min.'s a Day". You don't have to wait til you get a stone to use it! I use my griddle to bake my bread on. It works fine. You will be shocked at the ease in which their recipe works! I love it. It may or may not be for you. But please don't let not having a stone hold you up from trying their basic recipe. I hope you will like the outcome as much as I did.
 
Ok I have one of those cast iron griddles with the ridges on one side and smooth on the other. I still need to get a pizza peel before I can try it. I know that new store I found in Ashland will have a peel if I cant find one at Big Lots or Walmart. Is there anyway to get around using the peel?
 
Have you tried Swaptree?

Swaptree.com has books for TRADE. The books are in usually good condition, you print mailing label from your computer, make trades from your home and never have to leave the house. Your only cost is the mailing label. I've joined and have already completed 4 trades in a week. Go take a look. ;)
