I love eating out b/c we go to restaurants with exotic cuisine and ingredients that we'd never try at home
. But we go out to eat just once a month so it's definitely a treat. I love not having to clean up afterwards

Same here. Some dishes have ingredients that I do not have or are just too complicated to make at home.

I hope my post doesn't turn you away from dining out.
I've run restaurants for years - and I have always been very fussy. Never had a dish returned for any reason, nor any complaints. Everything was fresh, cleaned and sterilized. I could write a book about my rules and regulations - but I don't want to bore you.
What I have noticed is that restaurants are not as strict as they were years ago. For the life of me I don't know how some restaurants stay open! I have seen filthy kitchens, cooks that I really would not like touching my food, etc.
I'm very old-fashioned - hair must be pulled back, no nailpolish or fake fingernails on cooks, servers, etc. Hairnets must be in place - cleanliness is a must - for cooks, servers, the kitchen, utensils, etc. Every ingredient must be fresh, washed and I always made sure that whatever I served was what I would have wanted served to me. Every dish that left my kitchen was presented properly - treating each dish served as something special.
It's bad enough putting up with the public in a restaurant, you don't need to have to worry about who is preparing your food or serving it to you. Too many things are happening with foods, preparations, communicative diseases, etc. And I know that nowadays it's very hard to find good help also.
I feel much safer eating at home - at least I know that the ingredients are fresh, everything is clean and I don't have to worry about anything. Maybe it's because of my background that I feel this way - ???

I like to eat out alot but I think it is because by the time I get home from work I am not in the mood to actually cook. I think what I need to start doing is using my crockpot more often. this way the meal is done by the time I get home.

I know what you mean, Mama. My mother-in-law is that way; she worked as a waitress for years & knows how kitchens used to look compared to the way they look now. She can't understand how some of these resaurants stay open. They are filthy & the cooks aren't any better.
