That is a lot of farmers markets!
I love to buy local farmer produce. You know the items you purchase are fresh, usually picked that day or the day before. Produce usually is produced without all the chemicals and pesticides that the big growers use. Also supports your local farmer. In fact we have a farmers market close by that also sells different cuts of beef and pork as well as fresh eggs that they raise on their farm.
I try to buy my produce in season from the little guy that has his stand on the side of the road next to their farm. Fresh, and delicious, give the farmer a reasonable price for the produce, and above all tastes good. The secret is knowing where the real farm stands are. There are a lot of folks that sell tomatoes on the side of the road here in May, but the local plants have just been set in the earth.
We're going to a family reunion out in the country this wkend, and there's always someone selling fresh watermelon by the side of the road. We always buy some and cut it up for everyone when we get there. YUM!
