A whole festival dedicated to watermelons? That's weird, but I would love to go to one. I love me my watermelon.

I visit a few farm stands in the area on occasion when local produce is in. My city has a large farmer's market on Thursday mornings that I have never visited but i would like to someday.

I love the Farmer's Markets or even the "impromptu" ones (as in Farmer pulls truck to the side of the road and sells to passersby). Or the smaller markets who carry local produce. You just can't beat the quality.

It's not a farmers market, but the comment about the one that had cuts of beef reminded me of this. There is a slaughterhouse about 15 miles from my house...they have some of the best meat. They sell preformed burger patties....man...they are so tasty. It is called Old Plantation. Their busiest time is hunting season...they process a LOT of deer. Back in high school our AG class took a tour....pretty gross....standing in pools of blood about 3/4 inch thick...55 gallon barrels full of deer eyeballs and such.

This is the best way to get fresh vegetables and fruit. Where I am from there are several farmers markets. Also, there are a lot of Amish where I live and they sell their bread and pies there to. I love there apple butter.
