This is a handy reference because I'm always in a quandry as to whether something has exceeded it's shelf life. I usually follow the "when in doubt, throw it out" rule, but it's good to know some things are not past their prime.

I usually exceed the shelf life of almost all ingredients...it seems silly to throw away something like spices after just a few months though i know they lose some flavor.

I do that too. My spices probably aren't as potent after a few months as they were originally, but I just use a little extra to make up for it - much better than throwing them away.

Wow, I have to throw away a lot of stuff. Well, I guess it's for the best. Food poisoning is bad, my friend had it. Was out in the hospital for 60 years. 60 years minus 59 years, 11 months, 30 days.
