What's going in your garden?

It's almost time to start planting a garden, so I thought I'd see what everyone is planting this year.

I'm planning on
  • tomatoes
  • onions
  • bell peppers
  • leaf lettuce
  • squash
  • green beans - maybe
 
purple hall peas, green beans, tomatoes, potatos, squash, okra, jalepenos, banana peppers, and who knows what else.
I will not plant watermelon or cantelope because they never seem to do very good.
 
I probably won't have a garden this year. In the past I have had success with okra, squash, tomatoes and watermelon.

I tried strawberries, not a good idea.
 
We've never had luck with watermelon or strawberries either. I've just given up even trying them.
 
Oh i wish I had a garden but here I don't even have pots *sigh*
But when I have one, I am going to grow a little bit of everything that I can.
 
Lots and lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pumpkins, and different kind of peppers.
 
We will have corn, tomatoes, jalepenos, serrano chiles, banana peppers, cauliflower, squash, radishes, melons and I think that is about it. I am not sure if they will grow or not but it is worth a try.
 
my garden is growing!! :)

we got hit with a late freeze and my tomato and pepper plants died, so I replanted those yesterday. Last week I planted squashes, cucumbers and lettuce - and they're starting to come up now. The onions have been in for a while and are getting big. :D

I'm so excited! I can't wait until they start producing!
 
Medako that is great. I haven't been able to plant mine yet well one tomato plant got done. We had really bad winds and one of our trees fell over into the area that we were going to have the garden. Now we are waiting for someone to come out and take the stump out of the ground and fix the fence.
 
I've turned into a regular lil dirt digger. I go out every day and pull weeks and see how much taller things have gotten.
 
I pulled my first onion yesterday! I needed one for lunch and didn't have any from the store, so I went and pulled one. I'd planned on letting them grow into big bulb onions, but I think I might start using the green onions as I need them - there should be plenty.

I just spent part of the afternoon working up the ground and (hopefully) getting ALL of the weeds out!

I just realized that it doesn't look like there's much in there. Even though it's hard to see, I have onions, tomatoes (roma & better boys), zucchini, yellow squash, leaf lettuce, cucumbers, jal. peppers, bell peppers, & serrano peppers all growing...the green beans haven't quite come up yet, but they should be sproutin' in the next few days (late getting them planted).
 
I'm waiting until the weather settles down over the next couple days but I already have my Park's Whopper Tomatos and some Cubenelle Pepper plants to put in the ground.

I'll also plant some cucumber seeds and pray that the ground hogs (woodchucks) stay away this year :)

Wow that's big! Did you dig that by hand and how do you keep the varmints out?
 
I had it worked up with a rototiller the first time, and then sprayed to kill the weeds. Of course, there were plenty of weeds left by the time I got back out to actually plant. So, me and my spade and claw worked up all of the ground again the pulled all of the weeds out. I'm going out everyday and I spend a couple of minutes pulling any stray weeds that have popped up, but it's very managable now.

Ya know, I'm not sure how all of my plants aren't getting eaten by something. We ALWAYS have rabbits, possum, armadillo, raccoons, etc. out here...but for some reason, I guess they're not interested - which is fine by me!

I once talked to an expert grounds keeper at a private golf course and he said that once you roto-tilled, the ground will always stay soft. About 10 years ago we rented one for our vegetable garden and used it to till up a flower bed in our front yard. Two weeks ago I planted some red salvia for my hummingbirds and you could really feel the difference in the ground from where we had used the roto-tiller and where we hadn't disturbed.
 
I hope that's true. It'll make working it up next year much easier!
