Gouda Cheese?

I noticed the place where I get my smoked cheddar also had smoked swiss cheese, smoked hot pepper cheese and smoked gouda. The smoked gouda was about $2 more a pound than the other smoked cheese they had.
I got a pound of the smoked cheddar and half a pound of the smoked swiss.
Can anyone tell me what Gouda tastes like? Is it similar in taste to any other cheese?

Gouda is a tight-grained, semi-soft cheese with a mild flavor. You'd probably like it.

Smoked Gouda, however, has a heavy consistency and an earthy flavor. Many people (Friend Wife among them) who like Gouda do not care for it smoked. It really is a radically different taste and texture.

Why don't you ask them for a taste next time you're in there? I've never heard of a reputable cheese shop that won't do that.

Gouda has a much mre obvious flavor than say cheddar. It's the king of cheese that has a presence

I like smoked gouda on a cheese platter. I do not like to cook with it or have it accompany a meal because it is too strong. But you can definitely sit it next to a gorgonzola and a pecorino and it fits in.

I always have it in dishes because it's the only cheese I always have in the house, My mothers dutch so it's a given. You know what they call the dutch people "kaas koppen" cheese heads
